Hi,
I am a week out, today, and yesterday I woke up with such hunger pain I was convinced that my pouch ruptured or something, b/c all of a sudden, I was hungry.  Really hungry, shooting pains in my stomach.  It's happened a little bit today, too, but I've used those times to take my vitamins and get my Carnation in, but there's been a dull hungry feeling all day, not a ton of full sensations, but a couple times during the day feeling full while I'm having those hunger pains, too.  I'm wondering if my "old" stomach is sending signals while my pouch is satisfied.  Is that possible???  Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

I don't know about that, but I do remember that in the hospital I was having what felt like AWFUL hunger pains at first, but (if you don't mind the overshare) turned out to be just gas. I found that the pain got less when I did pass gas. I don't know WHY my body interpreted it as hunger pains, but I was REALLY convinced that I was starving. It went away, though. Sorry, but I don't know what else to say for help.

Good luck!

I too am unsure what to tell you. I did not experience any hunger pains... I can tell you I battled major head hunger, especially when everyone else ate. I know everything improved for me once I moved onto soft foods.

If you're experiencing pain, I would suggest you call Dr. Kelly's office just to make sure. I know I called a few times and both Dr. Kelly and Robin Mason were awesome. They never made me feel bad or stupid for calling. So give them a call and tell them what you're experiencing.

I do know head hunger is a nasty thing as it's been kicking my butt all week. :)

Thinking of you!!

I too felt hungry --- for the first few weeks since I was basically only on clear liquids since I could not find a protien shake that didn't make me nautious.  When I saw my doc during that time, I said to him I thought  was dying of starvation... he laughed and said, "you're here aren't you??"  I said, "yeah, barely!"  we chuckled.  But really... getting in your fluids was what I was told (by him) was most important in those first few weeks.  I only really felt better once I got to soft foods.  I LOVED refried beans with salsa, sour cream and cheese then!  Hang in there, in the grand sceme of things, that first few weeks goes by fast (even though, I know it feels like forever!)  Good luck!
