OMG just scheduled a consult
with a Plastic Surgeon!!!
He's speaking to my support group next month, so I decided i would hear the story and then go for a consult - so I called today to make sure I could get an appointment sometime this century, and I have an appointment Feb 2!
I don't know if I can even conceive of affording this, but I have to at least try!

hey sue -
this is a big step - congrats!
mind if i ask what you are considering having done? i am 6 weeks out, and know my lower belly is going to be a trainwreck! i am sure my arms, inner thigs, boobs will be rough too - pretty much anywhere i had stretchmarks i guess.
sometimes i wonder if i would not bother as long as i look good in clothes, but i have to be realistic that i most likely will never be satisfied!

my ideal would be a lower body lift with an inner thigh lift. My thighs looked bad with my pre-op weight loss, so now they are pretty sad. My boobs are saggy, but a good bra does the trick, and my arms aren't sooooo bad.
If I never do plastics, I'll survive, but I'd like to check it out and see if I can swing it. I'd love to feel comfortable in a bathing suit! (and a belly piercing!)

Sue..congrats on your upcoming appt!!
I do want to throw my 2 cents in as well. I have gone to the Resident PS clinic at Mass General. Im a nurse, so was hesitant to go there. One of the other members on here convinced me to at least try it. I did, and Im totally thrilled.
Basically, the Resident Clinic is just that, its the clinic that the residents in training use. The chief Resident does your surgery with a very experienced board certfied surgeon in attendance and both work in you together. I will tell you, which most people do not know this. If you are having surgery in any of the major hospitals in Boston, a resident will be doing the surgery along with your physician. Thats just a fact which most people do not know. I took this into consideration when I went to the clinic.
A week before Thanksgiving, I had a lower face/neck lift. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the surgeon that did my surgery. I got to meet with him for a consult, which lasted a good hour. He was thoughtful, patient and explained everything to me. He also corresponds via email as well and I can always get in touch with him. I was able to meet the attending that would be with him in surgery as well. I got an excellent result with my face. I am thrilled. The attendings that do the surgeries with the chief resident are all experienced in what they do. Its Mass General. The care that I received from the moment I checked into the hospital until the day I was discharged was superior. I had my WLS at Brigham and the care doesnt even compare. Dr. Cooper will be done this next year with his residency and will be moving to Florida. If I have any more work to be done, I will probably go down there. That is how much I like this guy.
I am returning in Jan to have a tummy tuck, BL/BA. When I was interviewing private PS this past year, I was quoted a cost for the tummy tuck, BL/BA between 18-22K. That didnt even cover my face and did not even include an over night stay. The total cost for my neck lift/tt/BA/BL is nooooooowhere near that. Ive saved thousands.
Anyways, since you are just starting your journey, take the time to see and interview several PSurgeons. If you need any more information, please let me know.
Good luck!

Thank you for this handy piece of information! I'm sure lots of board folks can benefit from this! I will certainly take this option into consideration.
