Hey crew -

So I was supposed to have my 3 week followup with the NUT next Wed. but today they called to reschedule me for tomorrow!  I am very excited!  I have a whole list of foods/products to ask her about (and am also dying to get on the scale!).  Not sure if my diet will be advanced or not tho.  I was just wondering  1) what your meeting was like 2) what was your grocery list composed of (or your faves) 3) does UMASS start with pourable/puree then advance to soft?  so many hospitals do it different - I have friends that came home on pureed foods! and lastly my neices wedding in Saturday night - I ordered the fish, but I was just assuming i would give it to my husband.  I am going into it thinking i will just sip the night away (water w/ lemon) but would you brave enough to try anything else?  a soup?  fish?  not even sure what is on the menu - and i will also run this by Jenny tomorrow.

Thanks!!

Hi Kat,

I actually had my 3 week appt with the Nut (Kathleen) this morning at UMASS!  I am SO HAPPY to go forth onto foods!  Do you still have that paperwork that we were given in the classes?  She just went through the same packet and highlighted some things she wanted to point out.  She said to start out with softer mushier foods, yogurt, cottage chz, cream soups, etc (all on the paperwork),  then gradually try things moist like tuna, chicken salad, fish, poultry etc.  She said always try it at home first, so maybe try fish a night or two before the wedding.  I am going to try shrimp ****tail at home prior to Thanksgiving since I am bring that then.  She told me the main focus is on protein and to gradually build up to the 50 gms I need.  Keep up with the liquids, and vitamins also.  At Dec 18, I can progress onto the reg diet, and again said start SLOWLY, like don't start with steak & a salad!  But she said as long as it's moist, I chew well, and eat slowly, I can try a lot of different things.  I came home from the appt and made a egg beater scrambled egg (1/3 cup) and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!  So exciting to go onto foods after no foods for 3 weeks -- glad we made it through that!!!  Good luck and let me know how it goes!

hey there -

i am so glad my appt is today!  i do have that packet and used that to make a grocery list and also have sample "menus" from a few different books.  i am going to run them by her and she what she says.  a few people have told me not to try anything new out in public, so i will be good!  if they have a cream soup, i might have one sip.  i will just tell the family i am sitting with that i had a stomach bug this week but didn't want to miss the wedding.  it will suck to just sit there - but worth it.

can't wait for my first bite!  i think i am going for cottage cheese!!!

see you thurs!

So exciting to eat!!!  After the scrambled eggs, for lunch I had 2 oz's of fat-free refried beans with a sprinkle of cheese. a small tsp of salsa, and sour cream...  I heated in the microwave and it was TO DIE FOR!!!  The hardest part so far is taking 30 mins to eat it!  I am making a pot roast in the crock tonight. I got the recipe from www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com on her pureed link.  I asked the Nut if I needed to puree it, she said as long as it is moist and I chew well I should do okay.  It smells SO GOOD, I can't wait for supper!  I am also going to try a cheese stick in a little while too.  I hope I don't have food aversions, I am having too good of a day!  Let me know what you try that works for you.  Yes, see you Thurs!  ~ Mara
