Decided on bypass over band

So I had my consult last Thursday w/Dr Ameri out of Stoneham and after talking with him for an hour and then discussing it even further w/my husband when we left, we've decided to go for the bypass over the band.  I am scared though as it is a much bigger surgery.  I am still praying my insurance covers it! Going for my first "mental health evaluation" tomorrow...what should I expect?

Thanks,
Sarah :)

first off, congrats on your decision and good luck on your journey. the mental health eval is pretty much just like a first appt with a shrink. basically they are trying to make sure you are mentally ready to change your life and mentally able to deal with the changes.
you'll be fine!

good luck

Congrats on your decision.  i made the same one and have been THRILLED with my RNY.    I just don't "get" the band.  I know it works for people, I just can't wrap my mind around it.  Anyway, welcome to the RNY bandwagon - i hope it treats you as kindly as it has me.

My psych evaluation was mostly just a conversation with the psych nurse.  She wanted to make sure I didn't have any major misconceptions about the surgery and that I understood the work it would take.  Some people have to fill out long questionaires... I didn't have that.

Best of luck!

The band was relatively new when my chance of surgery came around, and the folks who spoke about claimed it was more natural or something.   In addition, they claimed the surgery was "reversable" Two surgeons that I spoke to during my decision claimed they would NEVER perform surgery again to remove the band - thus it wasn't reversible.

In any case, RNY has been proven the most effective manner of weight loss for the morbidly obese.  There's something to the statement to think about.
