Thanks for such a beautiful post.  It reminded me of a line from a favorite poem of mine, by Margaret Atwood ....

Sons branch out,
but one woman
leads to another ...

My mother is very old and my daughter is 20.  I see us like those Russian wooden nesting dolls, you know ... just infinitely inside one another, but the older (bigger!) ones protecting each smaller one?

My mother lives a few hours away.  It's often hard for me to get to see her.  Your post has changed that.  What's 3 hours?  She's an absolutely amazing woman.  I know I won't have her much longer - she's in her 80s.  I need to spend as much time w/ her as I can.  I only wish I could convince her to move closer to me ... my stubborn father stands in the way of that ...

yes i would do anything to have my mother now but i am getting stronger every day... i tell all my friends that to keep there loved ones close as they can and appreciate them.. but as we all know everyones lives are different and vary from situation to situation....
