ONEderland and an ulcer
Sue,
I also had a marginal ulcer. I was having real problems with liquids and showed my doctor exactly where the pain was. She thought it might be a marginal ulcer and sent me to see the gastroenterologist.
He had me on a couple of medications. The liquid carafte was my best friende. CVS had a hard time finding it. Call around if you have this problem. the carafate tablets did nothing - the liquid was wonderful.
Please let me know how you are doing.

hi Susan,
I wish I could remember how long it took to get better. They found it in September - my surgery was last May. I did refill the carafate prescription in December, but I think I just wanted to have some on hand for "just in case".
I know I stopped eating firm food. I would eat scallops, shrimp and chicken thighs. I ate a lot of yogurt with protein powder added to it. I made a lot of bean soup - the package of dry 15 bean soup. I ate refried beans with melted sheese. I could eat deli salads - egg salad, chicken salad, ham salad. As long as I was taking the carafate, I did not have trouble with softer foods.
I would make pudding and add protein powder to it once it cools down. I can't have anything with aspartame, so that really limited my soft food choices.
It gets better.

Glad you are in onderland.....Sorry about the ulcer!
Thanks Stasi!
Jayne,
It sounds like yours healed fast. did they do another endoscopy to make sure it's healed? The doc said I should have another endoscopy in a month to make sure it's healing properly. I hope mine heals fast too. I am also eating soft foods...I'll have to try some beans. I've just been drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast for more protein. I'm still feeling weak from being in the hospital, but I think it's from lack of nutrition for a few days.
It's amazing how unhealthy a hospital is. I did have a second endoscopy and they want me to have another one, but I haven't scheduled it yet. Here are the postings discussing my marginal ulcer.

Hi Jayne,
Thanks so much for the postings....it is so helpful knowing someone who has gone through this as well.
I'm still REALLY tired....did you have fatigue as well? At first, I thought it was due to not sleeping well in the hospital. I've been out a week and still exhausted. I am getting all my protein in and fluids. I've been taking 2 hour naps everyday. I see the surgeon next week, so I will see what he thinks.
How are you doing now? are you still having pain when eating?
