Which office processes paperwork well?
I went to Lowell General, same Dr's as Emerson. My paperwork was submitted very quickly and had my approval within days (including a holiday weekend).

I think sometimes it's also the insurance that you need to take into consideration as to timeframe of acceptance. I got approved first try via NWH, Met Dr. P. June 4th for first time, got approved in late July, and had surgery 8/21. My ins. was United Health Care/HP - they didn't require a 6 month supervised diet or anything. That was good.
BTW - the June 4th appt - lasted about 5 hours because you meet with everbody in that one day. Nutritionist, psych, dr., labwork, etc.

Thanks everyone. It's wonderful to be so close to Boston where there is so much talent. I have Aetna and while some people have complained on these boards, I found one thread that was v. positive.
I realize I could drive myself nuts going to every hospita's info night, so maybe I'll strike gold on the first or second orientation session!

I went to 3 info sessions. I definitely recommend going to at least 2, since i found a huge difference between the program/attitude of the first 2. Neither was bad, but one was better for me. I went to a 3rd session mostly to bring my mom to one so she would hear about the surgery, the process, etc and ended up going with hospital #3. I'm sure my surgery would have gone great with all these hospitals, but the ease of follow-up ended up making #3 a great choice. I'm more likely to go to support groups and it's right around the corner from work so I can easily go to appointments and work.

I went with Newton-Wellesley and was VERY impressed with the speed there. I always got a call back when i left a message, even if they didn't have new information for me. I recommend NW on this front, and every other.
Other suggested considerations:
Will you be willing to drive there regularly for follow-ups and support groups? (I ruled out some locations because I knew it would be a "project" to go there)
Do they have a well rounded program with on-staff psych and nutrition professionals?
Does your insurance cover this program?
Best of luck!!!!!
