Liquid diet preop HELP
I stated my liquied diet on Monday and it been horrible. I am not diabetic, but I am insulin resistant. So I had low blood sugar symptoms for 3 days and just thought it was my body adjusting. I finally called the surgeon and he said I could add protein bars, eggs and granola bars into my diet.
I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with low blood sugars?
I am worried it will be worse after surgery?

i had a terrible lows before surgery. Thankfully in the hospital they monitor you constantly and will be able to tell you what to do. perhaps your insulin resistance will disappear after surgery! Definitely do not be afraid to ask questions!!

Thanks Sue!
Did they monitor you before you actually went in for surgery?
What did you eat or drink to help stabilize your sugars? I have been adding the eggs and granola bars. I got some Kashi protein bars. That has been helping me so far.
I am hoping the insulin resistance will disappear after surgery! I'd be soooo happy.

call the dietician on Monday. You want to make sure your body is in good order for surgery. At the Brighams, they permit you to have one small healty meal per day.
The goal is to get you "off " of food, to reduce your fat intake. Some experts say you really can't shrink your liver in 2 weeks..but don't disrespect your doctor's orders.
Just ask the dietician for help..that is what they are there for.
Good luck...Joan
