I see that PB is on my pureed diet... however no mention of whether i should have low sugar/low fat peanut butter or the jar of jiffy in my cabinet is ok.... any ideas/experience?

I ate plain old skippy.  It tasted so good and I had no problems with it.  GOOD LUCK

thanks.  i have been comparing labels online and it seems if you kick the fat, you get more sugar... so i guess i'll just give what i've got a shot.

Sue,

Friday was my six month surg-iversary. I still don't have the nerve to eat peanut butter. (It was also one of my old problem foods. It could stay on the shelf for months, then one day I would eat half the jar!)

Hey skinny!!
Glad to hear you are up & around- hope your surgery was uneventful and recovery is boring... just the way it should be

Just FYI there are a few recipes in the green binder "bible" that they give from NWH that have peanut butter in them. When I used Skippy in one of them, I had mild dumping syndrome in my first weeks out. I switched over to the Natural Organics stuff they sell at Stop & Shop and that fixed the problem.
You may not have a problem, my advice is just try a tiny bit and see how it goes. Skippy does have quite a bit of sugar, so it may not be the best idea this early out.

Now I love peanut butter though. I eat it a lot after my run & have no issues with it.

i am 40 minutes post peanut butter, and doing ok.  it was a great treat.  :)  i took it real slow, so hopefully it will work out.  otherwise, i will try the organic in a few days and give that a go.

Thanks for the "skinny"... not quite there yet, but thrilled that i might be off insulin for good.

Hey Sue!
Glad to hear you're up and about..Peanut butter was something that I tried around 8 weeks out and had my first dumping experience on it....Actually it was my only "full out" dumping that I have had thus far (by full out I mean racing heartbeat, nausea, exhaustion, and sweating...I usually just get a rapid heart rate if I have too much sugar these days)...However, I tried it again later in a small amount and I was ok...Everyone's experiences are sooo different with this for sure...Not sure if you have seen posts about PB2 or not?  I have found that to be a wonderful "replacement" for peanut butter...it tastes similar to a natural style peanut butter to me and has something like 85% less fat calories than regular...Check it out!

Glad that you're doing well (then again, you looked so good in the hospital, I knew you'd be fine)!

We use Jiff and it has 3 g. sugar in 2 Tbs.  I added 1 Tbs. to my protein shake to give it a little extra protein boost, and had no problem.

My follow-up is on Friday @ 1:30.  Any chance I'll see you there?

Take care!

Hi Sue!  They even sell single-serving pb packs (which actually last 2-3 servings for us!)  It's easy to bring places, then.  They also have the single-serving natural applesauce.   I also enjoyed organic chili (mushed up) - lots of protein!  (plus you can add low-fat cheese topping!)     The 3rd week for me was the toughest, tired of mush, really wanted real food!  Persevere!  It will be great for you!
