Brigham & Women's Private Rooms
I am scheduled for RNY on 2/9/09. (woo hoo!) Yesterday I received the packet from B&W and it mentions the possibility of reserving a private room.
Did anyone do this? Anyone know the cost? Do you think it's worth it? Do you still get the care specialized for bariatric patients.
I HATE hospitals, and when I had my 2 children at B&W I got out of there as quickly as possible, even with the lovely private room.
Thanks for any information you might have!

I believe read somewhere in the past it is $400 a night extra...if you called they would tell you.
I had terrific care there when I had my RNY in July. I had the band there in Oct 04 and the care was fine..but this time it was like I was at a fancy-smancy place. I clearly noticed the difference in the physical building as well as the help and even the support staff. In fact, I received a patient survey..I wrote back specifically to the doctor in charge of patient satisfaction and told him each and every good thing the staff did. Twice the Brigham wrote and told me thank you for the detailed response.
My roommate was fine..the poor lady had cancer surgery and had pain management issues but she was lovely. Of course we all know of the horror stories of the bad/gross roommate.
I am glad you have your date. the time will be here before you know it!
let me know if I can help in any way.

I wasn't willing to play the room-mate lottery so I signed up for the private room - best money I ever spent!! The room was comfortable and softly lit (and all mine) and there was a great nurse to patient ratio so someone was always avaiable to help me get the pressure cuffs off so I could walk (and walk) and they were very helpful with anything I needed.
Not saying it wasn't equally nice elsewhere on the floor but it was worth every penny not to stress about how it would go or if I'd get a private room.
Good Luck,
