Anyone go/going thru the UMASS program
I am looking for information on the process at UMASS. I have an intake appt in Dec. and was curious to see what that entails (they told us at oreintation, but I don't remember it all). Then what happens from there? I have so many questions and wanted to ask someone who has been dealing with them.
Thanks a ton!
Kat
I was trying find the same answer To that question too.. I was never given a package. Didn't they give you one at the orientation?
I have been trying to get an appointment there with Dr. Kelly. All I keep getting is put from one person to another for over a week! I would like to know types of WLS he does too. Do you remember the types he does? Thank you for any help.
Today I was Finally told that the person who set them up is on vacation...So I have to wait until end of next week to talk to her...
I ask the lady who answered the phone, isn't there anyone else there who can give an appointment? No she told me.. My benefits are changing in January!! So it looks likes I will not be able to have WLS. I was seeing another Doctor, but he said he wants to refer me to Dr. Kelly because I have had many stomach surgery's.. Only one was for WLS, That was way back in Feb 1992. My surgeon I had and sure hope to still have, told me that the Surgery I had was a big failure. I was not a failure...I still feel like one...Take care, Alizka
Hello! I had my surgery at UMass. My surgeon was Dr. Czerniach. He is wonderful. For me, the whole process took about 6-8 months. I had surgery on 3/24/08. My first intake appointment was on 9/17/07. After that, you see the nutritionist and behavioral specialist. Then, they set you up for 4 weeks of group classes. 2 of the classes are behavioral related and the other 2 classes are nutrition related. They would like for you to lose some weight between the time of your 1st intake appointment until the end of your classes (no specific amount). At your last class, if you weigh less than your intake appt weight, they will have you see the behavioral specialist one last time. If you happen to gain weight, they will have you see the nutritionist again before seeing the behavioral specialist. Once your behavioral appt is complete, they schedule your surgery consult appt with the nurse practitioner. Then, they will submit the paperwork to your insurance company and you should hear back within a few weeks with a surgery date. If you have any other questions, please feel free to message me.
