Thanks, and welcome!
Everyone's insurance experience is different. My first step was to call my insurance company (Tufts) and find out if my employer had an exclusion for it. Companies can choose whether or not to cover it - so sometimes your employer is the obstacle, not just the insurance.
Lucky for me, my employer had no such exclusion. Tufts however requires all potential WLS candidates who qualify for surgery (BMI over 40 or BMI over 35 with co-morbidities) to participate in a 6 month behavior modification program. It was a breeze. I started that in March and finished on September 24. The surgeon submitted my info for approval the day i finished the program and I got approval 2 weeks later.
Other than having to do the 6 month program, approval was very easy for me. I started with a BMI of 43 with Type 2 Diabetes.
Good luck on your journey, and feel free to ask lots of questions!
