Newton-Wellesley question
I'm finally in month 5 of my 6 month program. I can submit for insurance approval on September 24th. Can't wait!
Just wondering if all NW patients have to do the sleep study, even if they have no history or symptoms of sleep apnea?
what other tests will i need to do pre=op?

you might want to call the office to see if the doc needs to see you for a quick consult before they submit for insurance. I had to play the waiting game for a new insurance. At the last minute I did need an upper GI....solely for the insurance company. I also had to re-visit the nutritionist in that time frame. I would call...so there will be nothing to slow you down. Also, they should be able to give you a date at this time--so when they submit to insurance they have a date to submit for. Good luck..I know the time has been long but the next few months will really fly when you know the surgery is literally right in front of you!
HI,
I had my surgery at NW on July 31st and I did not have to have a sleep study. The only other testing I did was my pre-op and I had to have a gallbladder scan on the same day as my pre-op because I still have my gallbladder. I also had Dr. Gazmuri as my surgery. Good Luck with everything he is WONDERFUL !!!!!

Hi Sue,
When I had my surgery I had to have one (it was required), but may be they have changed because I see what the previous poster has said. If I hadn't gone through this procedure, I never would have known that I had sleep apnea. I had no signs or symptoms of it.
If you don't have a gall bladder, then you won't need the upper GI.
Good luck with all your testing!

i had surgery 7/24 with Dr. Gazmuri. It might depend on the dr. But it really depends on what you tell them I think. They will ask you about how you feel if you wake up in the middle of the night, if your tired all day, headaches,,, things as such as those can be indicators of sleep apnea .. oh and along with snoring. . If you snore (and i'm not talking about with a cold i'm mean croncially) then there's a good chance you could have it. Then you would need a sleep test. Dr. Gazmuri didn't see a need for one in my case. untill my follow up when i told him i was just purely exhausted. (then again it didn't dawn on me that i had 2 kids sick with MRSA in the hospital at the time either DUH). I ended missing my appointment, because i had that going on then my MIL whom i live with went into the hospital with kidney failure and hepatitis (not viral or bacterial) so it was a couple trips a day to see her and i was just a mess. So i got a little my talking to for that. but was still allowed to have my surgery. However i HIGHLY recomend going to every appointment. or they may cancel surgery. (it also has something to do with neck size aparently.)
The sleep test was explained to me. you have your own private little room. and your only monitored by the monitors. no one is like staring at you all night! :D
hope that helps.

I had my surgery March of 07 and there was no mention of a sleep study. Dr. Gazmuri is the best!!!
Sorry sleep apnea was already part of my make up by the time I visited with Dr Gazmuri for the consult.
It was a year ago this week that I made the initial decision to have the surgery.
So it will be less than a month for you...Sept has always been my favorite month...probably since Bobby asked me to marry him in Sept.
Wait I loved Sept before I knew him.
Anyhow, good luck.

Looks like a mixed bag of results! May depend on the doctor and/or the insurance. I have spoken with the office and they have told me to call them the minute i have my last chat with my "i can change" coach, and there is nothing i can do before then. 3 weeks to go!
