noobie reporting for camp
I started my journey to the other side in June, when I went to my first informational meeting on RNY surgery. What an eye opener it was !!! After a lot of soul searching, I made the decision and booked my initial consult. I was seen in first seen in July and I am scheduled for surgery next month.
I am really impressed with the program I am in and how thorough it is. The support group meetings and information is fantastic. I have a supportive and caring family backing me up, unfortunately, my friends are not so optimistic. Most of their negativity comes from mis-information. But, despite my attempts to educate them to the reality of RNY and not just what Oprah tells them, they just can't get it thru their minds that this is a good thing for me.
I have met some really nice folks at the doctor's office and hope to make more new friends here.
Welcome and Congratulations! NW is AWESOME! You won't recognize my Doc listed as he retired a week after my surgery. I am following up w/ Dr. Gazmuri plus he did my lumpectomy and my husband's gastric bypass surgery. We also have one friend that just had surgery last month and another one that is currently going through the process w/them. I love him (Dr. Gazmuri) to pieces! It really is a wonderful program. Dr. Partridge is great too, everyone there is soo supportive. You will see a bunch on here that have been through NW, If you have any questions fire away, I'll help anyway I can.
Good luck
Gwen
I had my surgery at NW on July 31st. I cannot say enough about everybody in the practice. They are all wonderful. Dr. Gazmuri was my surgeon I cannot say enough about him he is the most kind , caring , sincere person I have ever met. The last thing I remember before going off to LALA land in the OR was looking over to my right and Dr. Gazmuri was holding my hand. As, I said you are in great hands at this practice. Any questions feel free to e-mail me.
Good Luck,
Justine
I'm planning my surgery with the same program as you. I shopped around a bit and found that NW had everything I was looking for. Their patients are thrilled not only with the quality of the surgery, but also the aftercare, which was one of things i found lacking in some of the big name hospitals.
See you in support group!

If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't, you're right. - Mary Kay Ash
this is a phenominal program. And your absolutly correct the after care is awesome. There's always someone on call incase you run into a problem If there's something that can be solved by a nurse Renee is just a sweetheart! I was really scared going into this. But I would do it again. I feel so much better already!
and to settle your mind if you wonder about hospital stays. The nurses are great. If you want to talk to a patient that had surgery that day. you could always ask them to give someone they no your room number (they can't tell you who had it) I happend to know a guy who had it the day before me and a guy that had it the same day as me (just before me ) from the puree diet review. and meetings. It's kind of nice to have a walking partner and to just have someone who understands how your feeling right there!
congrats on making a life altering (for the better obviously) decission to yourself. can't wait to here about your sucess!

Oh, I forgot...I live in Marlborough along route 20. So, if you want to give me a shout. I will answer any questions I can.
You must also know that these friends have made comments that initally a lot of RNY patients hear. Yet, some of the ones who were so caring, and thought I should just continue as I had been...I lost over 70 pounds before the surgery are just as caring now. I was wearing size 24 or 28 clothes, now into size 12 pants.
I have given most of my fat lady clothes away. I can walk into a store and pick something off the rack and it fits. Trouble is now, some L tops are too big.
You should know that the support meetings are great at NWH. I will be going away next weekend so I will miss Thursdays meeting. I hope to see you there soon or in and around Marlborough.
Oh, yeah, and our Mass group has met a few of times. I went once. It was terrific getting together with others both from NWH and other programs.
