Initial Visit to Surgery Time

Hello everyone!

I am very new here and am very excited about this new journey! I had a false start at another program that my insurance won't cover because it was out of state. I am on track now at the program at Lowell General. I have been to the initial group meeting and have my first nurse visit on Monday the 11th. The information says that the time line is 2-3 months.

Can anyone out there give me info on your experience, please? If it matters my insurance is HMO Blue of Massachusetts.

I have the same insurance and surgeon as you, and my surgery is scheduled for 8/19. My initial visit was June 4.

I'm having mine at Emerson Hospital in Concord.

I am really excited and want to have the surgery ASAP. I wanted to be realistic about the time frame to get there. I have been reading all the sad stories about having to wait 6 months or more. Yeeesshhhhh!!

Well you know you need the approval of the psych, then the nutrition program, but the insurance part for me was 9 days.

It's been a long time since I've been in..

Hi Ellie!  Hope everything is coming together for you for your big day - right around the corner!!

I also have BCBS and my surgeon was Rebecca Shore and I had it done at Emerson.  My first appt was towards the end of June '07 and my surgery date was September 18th.  My first surgery dates was September 11th, but I had to be rescheduled a week later because of a conflict. 

I have been very happy with the results and I feel better than I have felt since I was about 25.  I am approaching 50.

I also had Dr. Shore. In fact I saw her today. She is a very caring person. My sister was upset that I was going to have an RNY. Dr. Shore offered to speak with my sister over the phone. I left the hospital no longer on diabetes and high blood pressure medications. It is an amazing surgery. Three months out I no longer have hip pain that was bothering me for two years.
