Plastic surgeon fired.

My plastic surgeon fired. Dr. Loren Borud.

I think I will be putting that abdominoplasty on hold.  My doctor was just fired.

Dr. Loren J. Borud, 44, was fired effective Friday, the hospital said in a statement. The firing came two days after the Herald began inquiries into two previous allegations of impairment involving Borud that date to 2001. Two medical sources said Borud had been disciplined internally by the hospital twice in the past seven years.

The Board of Registration in Medicine, which investigates complaints against Massachusetts doctors, has been notified, the hospital said. Borud was suspended June 30 following a June 27 incident at the hospital, said Kenneth Sands, the facility’s senior vice president of health care quality. He would not say when the decision was made to fire Borud.

He also would not specify the nature of Borud’s “impairment.”

Yes, this man is responsible for my husbands' plastic surgeries and my mother in law's never-ending plastic-surgeries.  What?  Look here.

You are lucky that he was fired before you had your surgery since he is having problems.  I just had surgery on June 25 with Dr. Borud.  Now I wonder was he under the influence at the time of my surgery.  He did not smell like alcohol, he did not seem or looked like he was on drugs but who knows.  My surgery took about 8 hours.  He seemed very honest, educated and articulated each time I met with him.  I even saw him the day he had trouble on the 27th.  I had a part of an insision open up and he restiched it at one of the surgical suites in the hospital and he seemed fine then.  I know he was out on family medical leave about 1 1/2 years ago because I wanted to consult again with him before making my final desicision.  He was out for about three months and he probably was in rehab at that time.  Patients should know if a Dr. has substance abuse.  I would have never went to Dr. Borud if I knew this information that the hospital had.  I thought I thouroughly researched I spoke to mjany of his MWL patients and they only had good things to say about him.  I guess things happen for a reason.  Good Luck!

WHAT??   Oh my gosh! I just went to an info session he had a Beth Isreal not to long ago!

Something about him I just did not care for but I could not put my finger on it. He did seem to do good work though...then again....he would not be showing pictures of the jobs he messed up.

I did argue a bit with him about insurance coverages....He told us the only thing insurance would cover was a pani...which is simply untrue. My husband has worked for both Harvard  Blue Cross and they do infact cover other services when medically necessary. He said he would not risk his job and license trying to get services covered by saying they were medically necessary. In other words...I do not want to bother to get it covered for you because if I do...I will get paid less.

Despite that I was going to use him next year. His pictures of before and after impressed me.

I was just going to call his office yesterday for a consult........ I am in shock... anyone know of any other good PS in the boston area????

I am now following up with Dr. Lin since I just had surgery on June 25 right before Dr. Borud was fired.  There are a few PS in the same practice that seem to be good.  I heard of Dr. Tobias doing a local girls are just recently.  He has interest and experience with MWL patients.   I also consulted with a Dr. Tantillio in Brookline he was my second choice of PS.  Good Luck!

I've heard of Dr. Davidson at Newton-Wellesley.  He apparently does a lot of the Massive Weight Loss patients.  I was a patient of Dr. Borud's too.  He did a great job with  my surgery.  I feel sad about what happened.   My follow ups are now with Dr. Lin at Beth Israel (I also have heard of Dr. Tobias there too).  I think Dr. Davidson at Newton Wellesley specializes more in the post-gastric patients than the others do.

I've seen Dr. Davidson present at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford also.... I think Newton-Wellesey is just his 'home' office.

Greeetings everyone!  Any update to this thread?  I was scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Borud 1 week after he was fired and have postponed searching for a new surgeon until now.  For those who have looked into Dr. Tantillo and Dr. Davidson, any updates?

How about from anyone who has had surgery/follow-ups from other plastic surgeons?  Anyone you've been overwhelmingly impressed with?

BIDMC Plastic Surgery Debacle Cleared. Borud + Hicks

This is old news, I only noted it because someone at BIDMC was reading my blog today and I followed a backlink. 

The state Department of Public Health is defending its decision to clear Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of giving poor care to a plastic surgery patient despite the fact that the department did not interview several key witnesses to the surgical episode, which led to the firing of a prominent doctor.

Loren J. Borud, 44, was fired after he allegedly nodded off during a June 27 liposuction operation, then abruptly departed midway through the procedure, leaving the patient in the hands of a less-experienced surgeon and falsifying post-operative documents.
