Trying hard not to whine!

Hi everyone, this is my first post.  I am 8 days post-op for a LAP band, had a wonderful experience at the Faulkner.  Only one more wee****il my first post-op visit with my surgeon and moving to the stage 3 diet.   I'll save all my medical questions for him, but I was wondering if anyone else has been unable to get their blood sugars under control post-op.  You read about how people are able to send their diabetes into remission, overnight.  I was taken off one of my meds, and told that I could skip the other if I have a fasting level of under 140 (also at night, obviously not a fasting level).  So far it has not gone under 150 even one time (morning or night), on meds.  This on a diet of nothing but CIB Sugar-free, SF jello, clear SF liquids, and bouillion. Also the sugar-free CIB is starting not to "stick" anymore, and I am finding myself still hungry all the time.   I am worried that the hunger and the headaches will turn me into a royal you-know-what.  I am unable to concentrate on my work because of this.  No second thoughts, just need a little support to get me through this awful time.  Others have said they weren't really hungry on the liquid diet.  What's up? -mum

Hi Mum- I didn't have a lap band, so I probably won't be much help...I did want to say that I also had Dr. Mun and a wonderful experience at Faulkner for my RNY!  Welcome to the forum either way and know that it does get better!

RNY and DS surgeries cause rapid (days or weeks) remission of Type II diabetes in many individuals, well before a significant amount of weight is lost.  The benefits of the LapBand on blood sugar control are more in line with the benefits of non-surgical weight loss: you have to lose some weight first. As far as hunger, you probably haven't had a fill yet, and since you're just drinking liquids, they run though the (non-filled) band fairly quickly, so you're not yet getting the sense of early satiety that you will once your diet is expanded to include more solid foods. /Steve
