Hi, good luck with your surgery!! I know it is a very personal decision of who to tell and not to tell..  I personally prefer to be open and honest and deal with nay sayers as they come along...it's easier I think than asking others to cover up with stories and then later trying to explain why you didn't tell them the truth in the first place.  I feel this would cause less stress for everyone involved.  With all the information provided including shows which show a positive light on the procedure...never mind the increased numbers of people who have had it done (who doesn't know someone who's had it!) it is not as scary to most people as it use to be.  You may be very surprised at all the extra support you get!!  I explained it to my family that the same risks with surgery apply to an appendectomy and nobody would object if I had to have my appendix out.... that being said family dynamics can be tricky and only you know them and you best....so good luck with what ever you chose.
