Hi All,    I am decided to go through NWH for my RNY surgery. I am just curious to how lon it took you all to get a surgery date. It doesn't seem like very long for some of you  which is good news for me. I am a full time RN student and I am hoping I will be able to have the surgery during spring break or else I'll wait till the summer so it doesn't interfere with school. I have Fallon/Masshealth which doesn't require a 6 month diet compared to the Masshealth Standard (as far as I know). Any ideas on how to get myself moved along in time for surgery in March? Thanks, Katie

Hi KAtie Welcome!  NW is awesome!  Mostly it depends on your insurance and any testing if you have comorbities (sp?) You may need a sleep study, most do need one but not all.  From my initial consult to surgery was less than 2 months, my husband was 3 1/2 months I think he was longer just because they are very busy in the summer and his Doctor was away for most of August.  Have you done the new patient meeting?  If you have then you can schedule a consult if you already haven't.  You can always ask the Dr at your initial consult if it doable. Call your insurance and ask if they cover it and if they can fax or send you the requirements per your insurance plan.  I did that before I even made an appointment to be sure that it was even covered, I didn't want to get through the process just to find out they didn''t cover it. Good luck! Gwen

Hi,   I am waiting to talk to Marina about scheduling, but we keep missing each other. I am hoping I can get an initial appt soon and am going to the introductory meeting next thursday with a friend who had her surgery there. I do not have sleep apnea/DM (diabetes) or any other co morbidities.  I was told by my friend to ask to be put on a wait list for the 4 hour appt if it is booked out too far away, but even if I get an appt in January, 6-9 weeks would bring me to Spring break or right around there.

Hello! It took about three months for me to get my surgery from my initial consult.  But... I also had an insurance change in the middle of that which held things up a bit.  I also had to have two sleep studies done.  I have BCBS and MassHealth.  It didn't take long for the insurance, just had to wait because my insurance changed on July 1st.  The office was also very accomadating for me as well.  My surgery was right when my kids were starting school so I was able to have it done a week prior so I would be home for them starting school. Best of luck to you on your journey. Congratulations. Kendra
