I am 4 days post op.  I am feeling ok.  Came home on Thursday night.  I get full so easily.  My pain is at a minimum and I am finally sleeping without 5 or 6 pillows all around me.  It is incredible what this surgery does.  I can barely drink 4 oz. of sugar free carnation instant breakfast without feeling so full...at least I Think that is what I am feeling, I never felt full before. On Thursday I was in so much pain and wondering why I ever did this, but today I am feeling so much better and know I did the right thing. Any suggestions on how to get more fluids in?  My doc wants at least 48 oz  a day.  Having a hard time with that. Thanks

Fluids were tough for me too, especially at the beginning.  My doc only required 32 oz and that was a challenge.  I still ended up with an overnight hospital stay at about 3 weeks out because I was dehydrated, and that was not fun!  I found SF popsicles to be helpful.  The Lifesavers brand is really good!

Another thing I tried was measuring out 8 ozs at a time and writing down a tally mark when I finished the 8, knowing I had only 3 more to do.  Hope this helps!

If you are on clear liquids, try some sugar-free popsiciles. You can slowly suck on them to get in an ounce of fluid. Other than that, just Sip Sip Sip all day.  My program sent me home with 1 oz cups to measure out the fluids at first. That helped a lot. You can focus on 1 oz at a time.

Hi neighbor! I'm right next door in Abington!  Let me know if you need anything, seriously - I still have liquid Tylenol, liquid Colace (yuck!) and chewable multi vitamins that I've weened off of to using a pill spliter.  My only suggestion on getting all the fluids in, is to carry a water bottle with you EVERYWHERE.  I found that most of my pain was from gas, so I asked my beloved Dr. Hess if I could have Mylanta - what a huge difference that made! I ended up only taking one pain pill, the first night home.  Walking helps relieve the gas - gets it moving through your system.   If you need to talk or need me to pick up something for you on my way home (from Quincy), email me your # here at work ([email protected]).  Trust me, the first few days home are the worst, once all that extra fluid & gas have left you, you'll feel 100% better. God Bless, Laurie
