am I lactose intolerant??

My dr requires 3 wks of a liquid diet after surgery (rny on 6/18) - consisting mainly of Carnation Instant Breakfast made with Simply Smart Milk.  I was doing fine with this. But for the past 3 days I have felt bloated, upset stomach, and loose stools. Is it possible to become lactose intolerant after being ok? I've never been a big milk drinker so wouldn't have known ahead of time if I was intolerant. Any suggestions? Or should I just switch to the Lactaid milk and hope for the best?

after my surgery (4/9) I had all the same descriptions.  Mine lasted for at least the first month and then is slowly resloved itself.  You can try to change to the lactose free stuff but check with your doctor first.  I heard that you can very well develop lactose intolerant after surgery.  Check it out.

I became lactose intolerant after surgery and experienced the same sensations that you are having.  Though, for some reason, I couldn't stomach Carnation Instant Breakfast AT ALL, but I could others.  I use Lactaid milk but it still makes me somewhat nautious.  Good luck.
