Exercise

Help.  What are people doing for daily exercise.  I have just started to get "moving" doing hard yard work, cleaned the basement and garage.  Was a very busy weekend - NEVER once sitting on the couch or taking naps.  I think this is the first time in years that I felt I have had energy to do "house" stuff.  But on the flip side, I haven't introduced any daily exercise program with my diet change.  I had bypass on April 9th and I've lost about 30 plus pounds.

Hi there...Congrats on your 30+lbs   I had my surgery on March 5th and in the beginning I would walk 4 days a week about 2 miles...as time went by I added doing some weight machines but still only 4 days a week.  right now I am doing Step areobics 2 days a week, I walk 3 days a week still on ly 2-3 miles on a treadmill and occassionally if I have time I do some weight machines.  I am not faithful at it because sometimes I get to busy at work to go to the gym BUT I do try and walk 2 miles at least 3 days a week.  I notice the more exercise I do the weight loss is so much better so it makes me feel good.  I currently and down about 63lbs :o)   I know in the beginning its hard but try and get a walking buddy it makes it that much easier!  I have a friend at work that motivates me and I do the same for her and it really helps Good luck Marianne

Congratulations on your weight loss.  I joined a gym about 10-12 weeks after WLS.  I go 4 times a week.  I do 40 minutes of cardio and 30-35 minutes of light weight training.  I have noticed a difference even with inches when the scale wasn't going down.  I tried to come up with a plan that I could live with and commit too.  I knew I wouldn't be able to commit to an everyday exercise plan so I comprimised with a four day plan.  There have been times that I haven't been able to get there more than twice but, those weeks are far and few between.  Come up with a life sytle plan that you can commit too.  Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the weight loss.  Keeping busy is a good way to get you up and moving.  To have something that is structured, I joined a gym and I love it.  I go 3 times a week and I increase my weights and tread mill each week, not each day.  My surgeon did tell us that for every 3 weeks of working out, to take a week off as your body will get use to the schedule and you'll not lose the weight desired.  Also, you need to change up the exercise program to make sure that your body sustains all that you're doing.   I also started putting disco music on while cleaning the house and find that I'll dance to certain songs.  Makes housekeeping fun while getting a good workout.
