When do the gas pains go away?????????

Hello! I was banded on 06/20/07. Have been home since 06/21/07. The gas pains are worse than the incisions on my stomache. Does anyone know how long it takes for this to go away. It goes from my shoulder blades to the middle of my stomach. The other day I actually thought why on earth did I do this to myself. I felt alot better before, no pain at all. I know it will be fine but can anyone help with this question "When will the gas pains go away????? Diane

they WILL go away, I promise. I wondered the same thing myself. I think it took a week for them to be completely gone but every day the pain got a little better. I agree, the gas pains are far worse than the incisions.   Sorry I cant help any more. You need to walk to get things  moving around and find a position that will help you err "toot".  For me it was leaning over the kitchen counter. Ahhhhhh---- it was heavenly  LOL

Diane, Yes, even for bypass, it was the gas pains that got to me more than anything.  I started taking Mylanta liquid as soon as my doctor's office approved.  Call yours, first, but it really helps more than the pain drugs for the gas. Strange as it seems, walking will get your system functioning again and help to reduce the gas.   Good luck! Laurie

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been able to get out the most scariest burps I have ever heard. They are also long. But boy did it feel good after they came out.

A great friend from small bites recommended Gas X- strips and they were a godsend.  I'm not sure when the gas pains go away since I'm only in week 1 of recovery; but the Gas X will hopefully help you.
