has anyone gained all or most of their weight back after...
being banded? I know how successfull the band can be to restrict the amount of food we intake...but I've read so many stories about people "slipping" back to their old ways and gain their weight back? How could that be? I haven't had my surgery yet, so please forgive the question. If the lapband gives us restriction...and we are taught to chew and eat our food slowly because our new stomach can only tolerate a certain amount of food and some food actually make us sick.....how does it happen that some people gain their weight back?
Hi Marie. Gaining it's no problem once that you finished with the food stages (5 stages) and not following your diet not eating the right portions and no exercising,,yes you could gain some wait back...the lap-band it's just a band around your stomach any liquids like for example juce/soda goes through like if you haven't had surgery so you really have to work hard to meet your goal and for the gastric bypass and other surgeries.. it's under the knife (you know what I mean) same thing gotta follow your diet and such.. we will get sick if we eat to fast eat sugary things and such (it stretches) this surgery it's not a fix we all have to work hard to meet our goals.
Hi marie, To be honest with you even if you have gastric bypass you can gain all of your weight back not all bypass patients get dumping which can make you sick if you eat sugar and certain foods i know several people that don't get dumping and they have slipped into their old habits and have gained weight your pouch can stretch with either surgery. Good luck. Michele
I've been banded just under a year and have lost about 80 pounds with 15 - 20 more to go. I've been maintaining for a while but know that I will be able to lose the rest of the weight when I put my mind to it. I am really comfortable with my weight right now and am focussing on other things in my busy life.
The best part of the band is that it is adjustable so if you find that you arent as restricted as you need to be to lose weight, you can get more saline injected into your band to tighten it up. As long as you follow the rules ie protein firs****er, no snacking and exercise you will lose or maintain your weight.
I suppose if you didnt have proper adjustments, and drank lots of highly caloric liquids and ate lots of snack food, you could gain weight but from my experience it's pretty tough to do that. Even when I gain a couple of pounds I am able to lose it in a day or two.
