Dr. Gazmuri question

hi, i've been doing a lot of reading about revisions and such and want to know what the rate of people who had surgery at NWH had success and are they still successful. i don't understand the revision thing and i also wonder that if people are gaining their weight back does that mean that they feel the same way they did before the surgery....meaning.....do they eat the same way like they've never had surgery?

I am too early out but I do know about 8 or 9 people that are a year plus out from NWH and all of them are doing great, some are 3-4 years out. I do not know percentage of weight lost and if an how much they gained back. I think a lot depends on each individual, we can be as successful as we want to be or not. Remember revisions could be that another Dr did the original surgery too, also people w/ a very large amount of weight to lose may need a revision also. Hope this helped a little. Gwen

Hi Deirdre, I'm certainly not in the place you're talking about, but since my friend is 4 years out and had a revision I'll give you her story. She had the open RNY with Dr Gaz 4 years ago at about 380 lbs. She lost about 160lbs (down to 220) in the first 2 years, and decided to get pregnant. She went through a lot of infertility treatments and finally became pregnant with twins. She had them about 15 months ago. When they were newborns she realized she was hungry all the time and she could eat way too much. Not like she could eat before but she was eating about 8-10 oz at a meal. And with the pregnacy she gained about 20 lbs and was unable to lose it. Dr Gazmuri scoped her and found her stoma (the opening between the pouch and the intestine) had widened significantly so food was not staying in her pouch at all. She had a revision (again covered by insurance) in May 2006 in which he tightened the stoma and she's lost the weight she gained plus about 25 more pounds so far (to the low 190s). She's now looking into plastic surgery. Revisions don't always mean a complete failure or that ALL the weight came back. The key is going back to the surgeon if ANYTHING seems wrong and getting to the bottom of it. By the way, they aren't sure if the enlargement of her stoma would have happened regardless or if the hormones from teh infertility treatments or the twin pregnancy caused it. I found it reassuring to see how good Gaz was about working with my friend as soon as she started having issues. Don't see the fact that a surgeon does revisions as a shot against them. Some surgeons refuse to do revisions even when they're needed. It's better to have a surgeon who will take care of issues that come up!!! Carolyn

I feel more and more confident with Gaz the more i hear about him. i was telling my daughters about how i met this girl online and we were going to go to the meeting together,. she says "mom, how do you know she's not a mass murderer". i thought that was funny. well, i gotta go eat.

Well, I gave up my mass murdering, biker chic days when I had my twins. It's hard to be a a scary lady when you're toting kids to the park! It was great meeting you!
