I agree with Kath and Kate. Don't get too tight and don't let yourself get too hungry. I live by those rules, have been lucky to be very successful with one fill, never PB, never experienced sliming, never thrown up and never have had a stuck episode. I definitely don't take small bites all the time, but I only eat so much food each setting and am satisfied. Everyone just has to find what works for them.

Topic: RE: Been Away For Awhile!
Thanks Guys! Glad to hear you guys are doing well too.

I got my stitches out this afternoon and he is happy with my progress so far. I have a hip that is an ingrowth prosthesis so that is why no weight bearing on that leg for six weeks. He said it takes that long for the bone to grow into the new prosthesis. He said the hip will last 50 years although I may need a new ball after 20+ years. That piece is ceramic.

I feel much better now after going to see him today and willn just have to chill for another month with in home therapy, then I go to outpatient therapy for another month!

Hopefully by then the heat of the summer will be done and I will be ready for fun!

Miss all of you guys and thanks for the support and well wishes!

Hope all is well with everyone! Been away for awhile preparing for surgery, hip replacement! Got down to my goal weight and I was still having excruciating pain in my left hip so Ortho dr agreed it was time to fix it.

So three weeks ago this Thursday I had mt left hip replaced. Was very painful at first until they could find the right pain meds. Been receiving therapy at home and I go in for my first post op visit with the surgeon tomorrow.

Thank goodness for my band, it has really helped me through all of this so I have not eaten the entire house while I have been laying around! I actually still lost a little more, but it was probably muscle.

I work out three times a day, but limited to my physical therapy which feels like nothing now compared to what I was doing! Hopefully tomorrow I will hear good news and continue to move forward with more PT. I am still non-weight bearing on that leg.

I can't wait to get back to working out!

Topic: RE: Recuperating from hip replacement
Making leaps and bounds toward becoming the bionic woman! Been at goal for three months now and in the hospital for hip replacement.

The surgery went well yesterday afternoon (in the middle of the Tropical Storm!) the pain was excruciating the first couple hours. Finally found the right pain med combo and am doing well. I slept on and off for the past 7 hours. Up now with some hot tea. I have made a couple trips to the bathroom so far with my walker and some assistance! Getting easier each time.

Probably need to get some more rest as tomorrow will be a big day with PT starting at 8:30 am!

So happy this is finally here. I cant wait to be back to golf, bike riding and playing tennis! Talk to you all soon!

Topic: RE: Weight loss....bump in the road?
I am with Crystal. When I was losing, I cut out all white bread, pasta, sweets. I exercise every day about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I mix it up sometimes bike ride, swim, lift weights, etc.

I did not drink any of my protein, only real food. I was only eating 500 calories a day for quite some time and only ate two meals and two snacks,

1 c of dense protein (chicken, fish, ham, roast beef, pulled pork, eggs, turkey cheddar brats) with 1/3 c veggies and a little fruit for my two meals. Snacks were celery with peanut butter, Cabot 75% reduced fat cheddar cheese with Special K multigrain crackers, almonds with banana chips and Quaker Oat Squares (my trail mix).

Glad you are back and good luck!

Topic: RE: Those of you with Sinus Issues
I am with you guys! A year round sufferer with allergies to mold, dust, cats, and feathers, plus chronic sinusitis and a diverted septum. For many years I would get a sinus infection in the Spring. Had to change allergy meds every year so that your body doesn't get used to them. Since being banded, I have actually gotten better. Off the CPAP machine, off Singular so now I am on Patanol eye drops, generic Flonase. Haven't had a sinus infection in a couple years (knock on wood) and can breath pretty well now on the cheap generic stuff.

Allergies can be terrible, especially if banded. I used to wake up coughing from such sinus drainage. I was so worried when I got banded, but have been ok.

I certainly don't keep my band tight at all because of fear of being stuck and the sinus drainage issues.

I am 15 months post op and have lost 158 pounds. I am at my goal, still losing a little. I am very happy with my band. I understand thar many people have had problems and some of us haven't. I don't know why. I have been very lucky, very careful and do the best I can to follow the rules. I keep my band loose, I have had one fill. Do what you can live with. You have to be committed to the band rules and tons of exercise, any kind of exercise. Best of luck to you and your decision.

Sick people all around me and I have had one cold issue that lasted a week but no issues. I have had less allergy issues and on less allergy meds.

Hope you feel better soon! There has been a lot of sickness going around here in FL all winter, hot then cold, really bad for sickness.

I was so happy when finally got a call from my pulmonary drs office today. I have been trying to reach them for three weeks now.

Did hit my scale goal today of 150 lost and but better then that the nurse practitioner told me my overnight oximetry test was good and I no longer have to use my CPAP! I am so excited. I had to wear that thing for 14 months.

Now I will see how I do tonight without that big old pacifier!

Building more muscle are you! Way to go Bette. Kudos for getting out in that crappy weather!

I won't tell you it was 82 today. I wanted to go to the pool so bad, but instead I put down 30 bags of river rock in my flower beds! Resting tonight so I can do it again tomorrow.

I used Premier premixed chocolate, Syntrax nectar unflavored and mixed it with flavored or Fortress (Walmart) whey protein powder and mixed the chocolate and strawberry with a little ice and water. You will have to try things to see what you like. Experiment!

Topic: RE: So Happy to tell Everyone I choose the Lap-Band and my surgery is coming up!!
Congratulations on your decision! I was banded a little over a year ago (1/30/12) and have lost 149 pounds. No problems so far. I have had one, yes, one fill. Keep reading and listening to the good and bad here so that you understand what may or may not happen to you. I always believe that you need to know everything, not to scare you, but to educate you.

Welcome and keep us posted on your surgery date. I see you said your insurance end soon, what then? How will you get your followup?

Thanks Nance! I exercise 1 to 1 1/2 hours every day. I mostly bike, but try to mix it up. The first 10 months I did water aerobics 3-5 days a week. Now I do that or bike or walk or lift weights or a little elliptical. Some times a little of each. It depends on my mood and if I can get to the gym or how warm it is out?, I also track everything on MyFitnessPal. Best to you!

I agree with journaling and exercise. My NUT challenged me to not journal and I have complied for two weeks now. No gain, but no loss either! I feel better journaling as it really holds you accountable. I will go back to it although I feel successful in living without it.

I am one year out, almost to goal and only one fill. Everyone is different. You must experiment and find what works for you!

Here is a great dessert idea! Take a container of cottage cheese and add to it any flavor of SF jello and a small can of SF fruit (strained). Stir it all together and let it sit in the fridge for a couple hours. It firms up a little.

Playtex is the only one I can wear now and it has great coverage. Platter 18 hour style 4693. I usually find them online at half off which is about $15. It does not have a wire and has padded shoulders.
