Lapband - Jan 2009 weight goal reached with lapband. Revised to VSG- 1/25/16
I will start by saying I had reflux for 19 years. It was a daily problem that kept me drinking baking soda at least 1 to 2 times a day for yes, 19 years. I talked to my doctor about it before the band. He found I had a hiatal hernia before I had the band placed. When he placed my band he also fixed the hernia. I had no reflux for a couple of years and one day it came back. I was not sure why but soon realized my band was a little too tight. My surgeon removed .5 and my reflux went away. You need to talk to your doctor and he needs to find out why you have reflux. The only time I have had any reflux was when my band gets to tight. That was 3 years ago. I have had no problems at all since. Talk to your doctor. Hope all works out for you

Looking for a get-away....go to our OH National Conference in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina. The NC State Fair is happening at the same time as the Conference so you can do both. Early Bird discount ends TODAY.

I can't comment on the hernia as I have no experience. But it was certainly a good idea to get the fluid removed. Being too tight for any length of time is the primary cause of many problems.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
My surgeon never recommends the band anymore. What he said to me is 1/3 of the patients do great, a third lose some weight, but aren't satisfied, and 1/3 lose nothing. Not great statistics.

I'm so glad, they truly scare me!! Now look at other surgeries too check out the forums here, just read thru a few pages of each and that will give you a good idea what everyday life is like with each one. I think they all have a what are you eating today post that will give you ideas of how the foods are for each surgery. I just hate to see people waste their time and money on bands when there are much better options out there for you! Good luck to you!
That's very true, they will say anything to get your money!!
The band has most likely caused damage that is making the acid act up. Many, many of us have ended up with gastroparesis or slow emptying stomach and that causes horrendous non stop acid. However the longer the band stays in the worse it will get and can cause Barretts esophagus a pre cancerous condition. This is nothing to mess around with or put off with self diagnosis. I put it off trying to wait for insurance to cover it and ended up still having to self pay because I simply couldn't stand the pain and I am already on narcotic pain meds for other reasons so my pain wasn't even touched by the narcotics!!! You would spend as much for a car so put yourself and your health ahead of insurance coverage and get it out NOW. I wouldn't wish the life I live now on my worst enemy!!
