Topic: RE: Liquid diet HMR

i have been on a liquid hmr diet and did well and the weight came off evenly not from the head down like it commonly does on me. the shakes tasted good and went well in cup of coffee..

it even works better if you have 6 a day. never tried the meals and did not care for soup but the chocolate and vanilla shakes get a thumbs up for me. cant remembered what i lost but have hunted down the shakes to use with my surgery. i did regain the weight but never finished the diet because i was needed elsewhere and could not.

Topic: Newly banded

Hey everyone,

Newly banded (4 days ago) just a few silly questions I guess as I don't know many people who have had the band and can answer them

1. how long did the swelling take to go down?

2. Is it normal to have the runs (I'm guessing liquid in means liquid out ????)

3. How long until I can sleep on my side again? ?? it's way too uncomfortable to do right now and I'm not usually a back sleeper! This is the part that's annoying me the most!!!

4. When does this ridiculous shoulder pain go away? I swear it felt like they had torn something during surgery. (Aware it's all referred pain)

Thanks :)

I had not been to the doctor in a couple or years and started gaining a little weight so went in for a fill. I was given an upper GI because I had some acid reflux problems. I did not know it was related to band slippage. The band was removed and a few months later I went in for a sleeve. During surgery my doctor determined I had a hernia so instead, I got a bypass. Absolutely no reflux now. Loving my bypass. My doctor does not do bands anymore. Band slippage can be dangerous. You can call me if you want and I will tell you all about my experience. You would need to private message me for my phone number.

BobbiDoll how did your physician determine the band has slipped? was it just a routine visit or were there other specific test done?

I've been banded since 2008 replaced lap band approx 2013 or 2014 cant remember the exact date due to leak and band was not staying inflated. then no more issues until about 6 months or so ago. I finally made an appointment with a new surgeon since I've moved away. Now I have pretty bad acid reflux which Im on meds for but I have nightly coughs. I feel like Im aspirating at night barely eat any meat product because they make me nauseous or just stuck in my esophagus. I had a real scare coughing and was barely able to catch my breath..I am holding out for my appt about 10 more days.

Hi, Im in the same boat too. I had my 1st lap band placed in Nov 2008 ..2014 I had it replaced because it started to leak...Since early 2018 I have been having horrible GERD, acid indigestion, feel like Im aspirating at night ...coughing bile up...and there has been no fills or nothing since 2014...I have an appt with a different surgeon now that I live in a different county to hopefully remove all the fluid and talk about a revision. I would be happy to get feed back on your experience or Michelle as well. I will check back and let you know how mine goes after Febraury 7th 2019

Thank you for sharing...Im having the same symptoms. I made an appointment but I cannot be seen until February 7th which sucks! but I am not an established patient here. My old doctor is in another town far away so I will just pray all goes until then. I want the band totally removed.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I went to my surgeon's office on Monday.  I told them my issues with extreme acid reflux, night coughs, and vomiting and they did an unfill.  I cannot begin to tell you how good it feels to get a good nights sleep without waking up in the middle of the night with bile coming out of my nose and jolting me out of bed.  I was able to ask about the price of removing the lap band and the estimate for the surgeon's fee, the hospital fee, removal fee, and anesthesia fee comes out to $6,707 without insurance and I can pay in installments by going through a patient financial website to sign up for payments or I can pay it in full if I wanted to.

This amount is fortunately doable for me and I thank God for that.  I was able to schedule a removal for mid August.  They want me to get a revision to either gastric bypass or the sleeve, but right now I am leaning towards just getting the lap band removed with no revision.  I still have time to really think about revision, but I am so afraid of having my stomach more than half removed or my intestines rearranged and then have the WLS not work again.  I can't stand failure again...and plus removal plus revision would be much more expensive and would likely have to occur in Mexico. I live in the panhandle of Texas and Mexico is very nearby.

I'm with you on this. This is my dilemma. I need my lap and removed. Doc wants to do a revision, but I'm leaning against it. Would hate to go through so much and something go wrong down the road or the surgery just not be successful. Freaks me out!
