I got the band in 2005. Everything was fine until about 2-3 years later. I was getting fills and all of a sudden the fills weren't lasting. I'd get a full around 2 and be fine but ravenous about 2 hours later and able to eat anything. It took YEARS (approximately 7-8) before the bariatric surgeon finally went ahead and sent me in to be checked and we discovered there was a slow leak and my band was broken in a few places. It took so long and so much fighting on my part with the bariatric surgeon that by the time he finally agreed to put in for authorization for band removal and revision to the sleeve, I'd changed my mind. I'd gotten used to eating and enjoying my food again and had too much time to think about other weight loss surgeries. I became afraid of revising to another surgery. Fast forward to today, I still have not had revision surgery and that old broken up band is still in my body. I don't know that band surgery is something I'd have again if I knew then what I know now.
Hi Tara,
Thanks for the update! Keep us posted on how it goes

Banded in 2007 with tons of success. Highest weight was 350, at surgery 316 and currently weighed in today at 127. ?
while ive have tremendous success, this past year the reflux and aspiration have been terrible to deal with. I finally made an appointment with a new surgeon as I moved out of state and we decided an upper GI and removal was necessary.
I am TERRIFIED. I don't know what to expect. I don't want to gain all the weight again. I just want to be able to keep fluids down, not wake up throwing up in the middle of the night and feel like a normal person at dinner.
Can anyone share their your experience after they removed your band?
My how a year has changed. Went to a surgeon today for my reflux and the fact that I've lost an additional 17 pounds with no changes on my part. Doctor is going to do an upper GI and remove my band. I'm scared and excited at the same time.
I got the lap band in 2004 it slipped eroded my stomach grew in to my liver. I am still plagued by side effects to this day. GET IT OUT. I am facing a revision surgery again getting worked up for it now. God bless

I self paid for an outpatient Realize Band 10 yeaso ago -- 12,000 that included everything pre-op and 4 months of fills.
Now, self pay price for a VSG is around 18,000 and the self pay price to do a band removal, hernia repair and VSG revision is 23,500.
Fortunately, my current insurance is covering the surgeries

You might want to see another doctor.
im 10 years out and went to see my surgeon due to reflux issues ... I was very successful with my band (lost 125 in 18 months and maintained for 8 years . Gained 45 in the last 2 years)
I amrevising to a VSG next month with insurance paying for it, even though I was self pay for the band.

ALmost 10 years out ... severe reflux and regain of about 45 pounds (of 125 lost).
UGI showed a pretty significant slip ... took out 3cc of fluid and the reflux is much improved.
i just got approved to have the band removed, revise to VSG and repair a hiatal hernia .. surgery is in 5 weeks.
