First of all, I encourage you to do what's right for you, regardless of others' experience. You might be just as successful without the band as you were with it.
Having said that, here's my band story:
I was handed in March 2005 at around 330 lbs. I lost 160 lbs in just over a year and a half, had a tummy tuck and arm lift and life was good.
Fast forward to 2016 and I started slowly gaining weight even though I still felt restriction. By late 2018 I had gained 40 lbs and had zero restriction and I was in full on panic mode that I was doomed to return to being fat and miserable. My surgeon determined I had a leak in my band tubing and I had a repair in February 2019.
I've lost 10lbs so far, which is disappointing because it came off so fast last time. I'm now struggling to get to my "sweet spot" without causing a slip by overeating. I got so used to over indulging while I had no fluid, and while the band did help me lose all that weight it did nothing for me mentally, meaning that I still love food and will eat it if I can. I'm kicking myself for trying so heavily on it and not developing a healthier relationship with food while I could.
I'm still hopeful that I will get the weight off but if they said tomorrow that I had to remove my band I would sell my soul for a revision surgery.
Hi. I want to have my band removed and get gastric sleeve. The band is no longer working. Did your surgeon do both procedures at the same time? I don't want to have 2 surgeries.
Hi.....
I am considering lap band surgery. I am roughly 5 ft 7,
at 258 pounds. Now I know Medicare covers lap band,
but no google search has ever told me the cost OF lap
band, only the types Medicare covers. Can anyone
give me a financial breakdown on actual cost thru Medicare?
Thank you,
Carl
I can't give you a breakdown, but I wanted to say please do not get the lap band.
I had one for 12 years and except for the first couple of years it was nothing but a torture device. Any honest surgeon will no longer perform lap band surgery. I had heartburn/GERD/reflux what ever you want to call it so bad that I was eating tums like they were candy. The band became encased in scar tissue and even completely empty I had so much trouble eating. The band caused damage to a part of my upper stomach that had to be removed when I revised to the bypass.
There are so many people who have had nothing but issues with the band. Please reconsider and look at either the sleeve or bypass or even the DS. Any one of those are so much better than the band.
Best of luck to you.

Hello , I have had nothing but problems with my lap band . I've had it since 2006.
I am scheduled to have it removed October . I have not eaten a good meal in years without the food getting stuck . I have no restriction in the bad at all . Just had a gastroscopy to see if I could remove it and it can be done .
I have hiccups all day long and I think I it's the band and now the heart burn is so bad GERD!!!!!
Good luck and congratulations on your weight loss . I am also following a keto / low carb life style .

Is there anyone on this forum from tucson az. Looking for some local support.
me too. I've had mine since 03 and had it unfilled years ago--thinking about using my tool again
Well this may be a possibility for me. Banded since 2007. Doctor doesn't no longer practice. Have crazy acid reflux and can't sleep at night with coughing or watering mouth or belching like i've swallowed lava. I can drink water and have reflux. Primary doc referred me to a gastroenterologist. Had recent barium swallow and endoscopy. Band has slipped a little bit. Going to get all saline pulled out of band next week to see it will help. Gastroenterologist said that if it doesn't help then he suggests next step would be removal. I don't know what to think because i was a self-pay patient when i got the band because my insurance through my job wouldn't cover it and i'm still with the same job and insurance company. Just a wait and see thing for me.
I had my band 14 yes. Unfilled about a year. Gained 10 pounds from goal. Lower carb high protein helps me. My skinny husband does the fasting. He was 200 at his highest and is 159 today. Do what works and great job!
Me too. Mine was placed in 03. I unfilled so long ago I don't remember why
