ive been having problems with my band which are mainly reflux issues. I've had the band completely unfilled which worked for awhile but then the reflux returned. A barium swallow showed that nothing was wrong. I went for an endoscopy because I'm considering a revision. They found a polyp but instead of removing it they want me back in for an ultrasound. I'm getting nervous about what this could mean. Anyone else have this happen? I'm ready to have this band out regardless of revision or not but I'm scared about what this could be. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm, I wonder what they are wanting an ultrasound for?  I am a sonographer, and it is impossible to see the esophagus or stomach with ultrasound.  The only thing I can think is that they may think it is your gallbladder.....if you still have yours.  Sometimes the gallbladder can cause symptoms that mimic ulcer, or other stomach issue.  I wish you the best, and hope you get everything resolved.  I had my band out three years ago, and that was the best decision of my life!!!!! I am having a revision to sleeve in late December!!!!  Say bye bye to that awful band.  You will be glad that you did!

its internal. It requires sedation and its call an EUS? Honestly I just wish they take this band out right now. I'm so scared this polyp they were talking about is cancer. I can't stand not knowing.

OH...Wow.  I am not familiar with that.  I will say a prayer that all is well.  As far as the band goes, I dont blame you one bit!!!!!  I was so happy when my band was gone!!!!!!  It almost destroyed me.  I can not wait for my sleeve revision in December.  I feel it will be life changing. Please keep me posted. I am not always on this board, so I would love for you to send me a message letting me know how it goes.

They may be looking to see if it is Barretts esophagus which is a precancerous condition that many of the banded people have had. It is not cancer but can turn into cancer if not treated. It can be caused from the band itself. As far as them not finding anything wrong with the band that isn't surprising because they rarely can. What happens is scar tissue grows between the band and the stomach and that can not be seen by any tests. This causes heart burn and GERD but isn't visible no matter what the test. So yes you really need to get that band out as soon as possible. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for explaining that. I hope they can take it out immediately after this next test which isn't till December 4th. I just wish the Dr could have explained it to me. Guess I was out of it at the time but my husband was there. Oh well time to wait.

The doc probably doesn't know this, sadly most docs are very ignorant of the side effects and damage the band can do. They go by what the manufacturer tells them and that is as little as possible. It is only thru some failed bands groups that we are finding all these connections because we hear from people from all over the world and find we all have similar issues and the few really great surgeons *****fuse to do bands anymore are figuring out what some of these things are caused by. Unfortunately the average surgeon doesn't know or care to know about the down side of bands they just want to make their buck off of it.

I know how hard waiting is I have to wait myself to re-do a thyroid biopsy to see if it is cancerous, so we wait together, my re-do is the 3rd. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts!
