I am considering having Lap-Band. I have acid reflux bad now and have been on med for it 20...
Oh NO not True Results please find an actual bariatric surgeon not that group they are all over the internet with hundreds of complaints about horrible aftercare, they basically are done with you once they get your money. Google True Results scams or complaints! They have a horrible reputation, they are basically a band mill that just churns out bands and then leaves you to hang. I know several people who started with them and ended up having to get a new doctor when they had any problems with the band, TR would just keep filling and unfilling them when they should have been removed! If you absolutely insist on a band please find a bariatric surgeon they are behind every bush in Texas they're everywhere down there! I might add that even the Mayo Clinic who is one of the very best medical facilities in the country won't even do bands in anymore because of the ineffectiveness and complications from bands. Myself I'm a full year out from having mine removed and like Nic still have horrid GERD that comes clear up into my mouth burning blisters on the skin in my mouth. So I would suggest you look into other forms of surgery because the damage done by the band is often life long!! Good luck to you!

I'm pretty well convinced that many surgeons will tell you their surgery will make your poop not stink if it's what gets you to have their surgery.
YES! In all seriousness, I know someone in my band to sleeve support group on FB who got the sleeve and the dr. told her it would fix her issues and now that it hasn't he says her only option is to get RNY. EVEN though he told her the first time she was not a good candidate for RNY and the sleeve would take care of everything.
Just like any other business/salesmen really. And it's sad.

I only ever lurk on this board (like I do for all except the RNY and general discussion board), but I had to jump in. I know a few people who had the band in 2007-2010...2 have had it removed, 1 is on her way there, and 1 hasn't had any complications but has gained everything she lost (plus more). My own surgeon won't do the band anymore, and said he stopped when it got to the point that they were taking more out due to complications than they were putting in. There's a group on here dedicated to failed bands. There are some members here who are very happy with their bands and have gone 10+ years without complications, but it is a very high risk. Personally I wanted the sleeve, but my surgeon told me that wasn't a good option because of my acid reflux, so I'm planning on the RNY now. Good luck to you whichever route you go, and just make sure you get your info from reliable sources!
I'm so glad, they truly scare me!! Now look at other surgeries too check out the forums here, just read thru a few pages of each and that will give you a good idea what everyday life is like with each one. I think they all have a what are you eating today post that will give you ideas of how the foods are for each surgery. I just hate to see people waste their time and money on bands when there are much better options out there for you! Good luck to you!
