I have FAITH I will do it.... I weigh over 350 lbs My cal in take was 3 to 4 thousand a day... After the lap band I planned on the rest of my life (the first 6 months no more than 800 cal) 1200- 1500 the weight will melt off the first 6 months. I did it before with out the band 90 lbs. If i only lose 50 lbs the first 6 months that mean I was not following my plan. Yes I will be upset with myself not doing what I need to do. Never would i wish i had another WLS!!!!! I planned on being a success story!!!!

Most banded people consider 50lbs in 6 months a success!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

It takes 4200-5200 calories to maintain your current weight 350+lbs -  so initially with any deviation from that  amount, you should be able to drop some weight with some ease.  You may too have a big internal stomach and the band may start out giving you restriction automatically due to it being snug without a fill.  You may lose your appetite - although in one of your earlier post you addressed this and said you no longer felt hungry and were dieting with ease.  At that point I thought you did not need WLS and probably could do it on your own.  Did you lose the 50lbs on your pre-op that you anticipated.

No matter, you will do perfectly well.

Good Luck Apples

I weighed 348 lbs on day of surgery and I lost 100 lbs the first 6 months eating less than 800 calories a day with the malabsorption from the gastric bypass.  With the lap band you won't have any malabsorption so that rate of loss will be significantly more difficult.

Have you read all the horror story about the lap band on this forum (Kate is the exception).  Many large hospitals are not even performing the lap band anymore due to the significant failure rate.  Have you even considered other types of WLS?

I can't have some of the other wls because of my medical issues. I heard the good and the bad from this website and other ones. I also seen videos of many people did GREAT with the band. The band is better for me

Have you sought a second opinion?

Years ago before I thought about weight loss surgery I had a major surgery with complications my surgeon told me no more surgeries. My body start shutting down ( my intestine stop working ) I didn't go back to him because i new what he would say I didn't get a second opinion

If you are going as low as 800 calories, make sure you take all the supplements people with other surgeries take. Banded people normally eat 1000 to 1200 calories a day and so the normal recommendation of one multi-vit will be inadequate for you.  Make sure your doctor also is aware that you are not following the usual programme for banded people.  800 is a lower calorie diet and should be with medical supervision. People with other surgeries get more blood tests etc than banded people normally do.

Good luck! I know that despite me having an incredibly positive mind-set, I could not have done 6 months on 800 calories a day. You have much more will power than me.
