Does anyone have anything good to say about Lap-Band?
Yes. After eight years I still love mine! There are a lot more cases of serious complcations than people thought there would be when I was banded in 2006 but there are still a lot of happily banded people out there. I know many in real life.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
LMAO... How do you think they decided to approve it here in the states??? The FDA didn't just wait and use the results that we have since 2001 or they might rethink approving it, But DOUBTFUL because the FDA isn't here to protect us, throw them enough $$ and they will approve anything.
They used the Poor ppl in other Countries like Australia and UK and used their results ( and yes I know those were 4cc bands not the new improved bands in the US ) YEAH RIGHT!! gotta love those New and Improved Lifetime La Bands NOT!!
I'd love to see a more recent report, One that shows the TRUE Complication stats AND REVISIONS done after LB.
That's not going to happen because someone might actually lose $$ But it's OK if the people that spent time and money on what they WERE TOLD and LIED to about how great the Band would be.
Here's one a little more recent if you need more I'll be glad to help.

KARMA IS GOOD
When I went to my seminar they said that they were trying to get away from doing the lap band. He said that it's not as successful as the other WLS's so they aren't doing very many of them any more.
My doc also said that he's taking more out than he's putting in. My throat can't seem to handle the pressure of fills and food doesn't like to move down. That's what I find difficult to manage.
There are some who are very happy with their band and have had great success. Then there are others who have had problems several years out and have revised. I am currently one of them.
I think the concept is a good one, but all of us are individuals so there will be rejections and issues with the band.
If I had it to do over, I would have had RNY or the sleeve. The band sounded good because of the reversibility factor, but when mine went south after a little over four years, it nearly killed me. I had problems and was diagnosed with a bad gall bladder. Two rounds of bloodwork cleared me for surgery. Fever three days after gall bladder surgery went ignored and under treated for nearly three weeks and by then I had a massive infection. I spent the next seven weeks in the hospital, open abdominal surgery to clean me out, remove the band, repair my stomach. The band was 75% into my stomach. Five weeks with a wound vac, six with a PICC line. I crawled out of the hospital grateful to be alive but so weak I had trouble climbing into the car to go home and up the three steps into my house. My hair fell out by the handfuls from malnutrition and the heavy duty antibiotics. Final tally for medical bills was over $250,000 and that is just my estimate and that is what the insurance negotiated it down to from over $700,000. My stomach and abdomen look like I survived an attack of knife wielding ninjas. And I had no previous problems with my band. No fill-unfill cycles, no acid reflux, no excessive vomiting.
