I was on full liquids for 2 weeks after surgery. However when I could add more solid food it was things like yogurt, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, then on to pureed tuna, egg or chicken salad. Remember to eat slowly and chew to mush before swallowing!

I was barely eating anything. Thanks for the info.

You just had surgery, you should feel tired.

It takes a while for the anesthesia and gas to work its way put of your body.

What do you mean when you say you increased your intake, did you add more fluids, or did you add more advanced eating?

i was on full liquids after day 2, which meant anything that could be consumed throu a straw (although I did not use a straw).

I relied on protein shakes, soups, water and tea.  I had something every 3 hours or so, with water in between.

You should have clear instructions from your surgeon about eating and next steps.  If not, call and ask for them.

Ahhh, ok.

I think I did a half of a protein shake (so 4 ounces) first thing in the morning, then another 4 ounces about 2 hours later.

Then, some cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup 2 hours later ... Probably 1/2 cup.

I did that all day, where every 2 hours I was having something more filling than water, about 7 times a day ... For about 700-900 calories a day.

Week 2 when I was allowed to move on to mushy, soft food, I added 1/4 cup of well-forked tuna mixed with light mayo for lunch and baked ricotta for dinner .... And still did

Protein shakes (1/2 shake 4 times a day) for a total of 2 shakes ...

I have always tried to 'eat' 6 times  a day... So I can tell myself that I am never more than 2 hours away from more food ... And then I sipped water in between and distracted myself with something else.

Good luck!!!

It is so long ago that I can't remember exactly what I did!  But within the guidelines set by your doctor as to type of food, have as much as you need, especially of the protein based things. Unless you take to drinking heavy cream (!), you are not going to end up with a very high calorie intake at this stage and, in any case, this time is for healing and that requires protein.

I don't like protein shakes and so what I did was make a basic soup, add chick peas for protein, blend until smooth, add stoc****il it was the correct consistency. Then I just had a mugful. Theoretically four times a day but in fact often more than that.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Thanks, soup has been the best. The protein  shakes are  not much of my thing. The one I had this am was soy milk, it just does not settle well. I am more a savory person, do not like sweets in the am. so any suggestions are great. Yours was good. I started Tomato soup yesterday, like that.

I added some coffee to my chocolate shake to take away some of the fake, sweet flavor.

I also added a few drops of picante sauce to my cream of chicken soup when I craved savory.

Keep plugging on the proteins best you can, as it will help with the tired, worn out feelings.

Hang in there, this phase ends soon and the losing begins!!!!

Oh yes I'd forgotten about soups but that is what I had all teh time once I'd gotten to full liquids! I used Campbells chunky soups (cause I'm too lazy to make my own!) I ran them thru my blender and jus****ered them down to the right texture and lived on them till I could start soft foods. I'm not much of a sweets person either.
