Oh sad... I really didn't come here to get into yet another band argument, but let me just say that I am really, really, really not trying to limit your free speech or dupe people into a surgery that is not right for them!

It was just hard when I would wake up feeling down on myself because I tried to eat breakfast and threw up, looking for some love on the internet (because my family didn't understand) to be constantly told I should run to the doctor and have it removed! That simply hasn't been my reality and it was painful to be directly targeted by people who seemed to have an agenda for my healthcare who hadn't met me and didn't even ask any questions.

I know that from your perspective you are trying to help--I really do. If this had happened to me, I can only imagine that I would want to scream out my frustrations to the world! All I am saying is that maybe there can be a balance??

Are you saying that not once during that time nobody ever once suggested an unfill?  Drinking warm liquids before eating?  Waiting a few hours until a bit later in the day to try eating?  Everyone, 100% of the time just insisted you run to your doctor and have it removed?  Honest?

People that vomit a great deal with the band end up with esophageal damage that typically cannot be repaired.  I suspect that was the concern.

At first, yes-- lot's of helpful responses! That is why it was such a great place to come, but really and truly--there were months at a time when I would just get that quick response--and I quit...

I am not here trying to change things-- I probably won't come on here for another 6 months until my surgiversary, anyway-- just my 2 cents, after seeing a post the resonated with me...

Be well, everyone!

You posted this last fall:

Topic: RE: To band or not to band
I love my band, it's been a wonderful 3 years for me, however, I would not recommend it to a newcomer. Maybe if I didn't read any forums, I would say go for it, but reading about the issues that people have had, I definitely can't. There are surgeries that are just as effective and are less likely to result in a revision.

I pray I am not one of the people who will need a revision, but looking at the odds, I feel like it is in my future at least in the next 10 years. I just had an upper GI this week, though, and everything is perfect at the moment, 3 years out.

I have never been nauseous and never had the shoulder pain, but I do get stuck. It took me a long time to figure out how to eat so that I don't, and I still make mistakes sometimes. I try to remain positive and tell myself that it is proof it is working, when I am throwing up phlegm... It's gross, but I can think of worse ways to lose weight!

Has your position changed?

I truly wasn't directing my post toward you, Hopeful and Happy. I hope you know this. I think you seem like a very lovely person and I'm sincerely happy for you that you're doing well.

I really don't see a "band argument" in this thread.  I see a debate about differing opinions on what constitutes support.  The name of this forum isn't Happy Bandsters who have no Complications.  It's here for anyone who has, had, hates, loves, with or without complications or wants a band, as well as those researching wls.  Everyone *****sponded fits that description.  Everyone is being polite.

Okay, I will grant you that I only went back two years but this is the only example I can find of what you describe of people telling you  to run to the doctor and have your band removed:

on 5/5/11 5:24 pm - Skinnytown, MA REALIZE Band on 10/26/09 with Julie Kim I posted last week that after a coughing fit (allergies) I vomited several times. Since then I have felt very tight and swollen, so I have stayed on liquids and mushies--suddenly not hungry at all. And even when I drink just liquids, I have a sore and strained throat. The good news is that I have suddenly dropped 3 (stubborn) lbs in 5 days. The bad news is...

I had my 18 month follow up appointment today, already scheduled, and mentioned the new symptoms. She told me I have "Esophageal Dysphagia" and need to get an upper GI to see what is causing it.

Has anyone else expereiced this? Any advice? I typed it into Google and it's freaking me out...

on 5/5/11 6:24 pm DS on 04/11/11 with Ara Keshishian It's a complication of your band. If you can't correct it with unfills or other adjustments, then you may want to consider revision.

Now, that doesn't sound to me like you had a single vomiting episode and someone told you to run to the doctor and have your band removed.  Doesn't sound like that to me at all.  Matter of fact, on the thread it was quite long and very supportive.
