Article on Achalasia
In researching how to manage achalasia I came across this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3108680/.
An achalasic picture may be mimicked by complications of surgery involving the gastroesophageal junction that may lead to impaired passage of esophageal contents into the stomach, and esophageal dilatation, such as fundoplication, gastric banding, and as a result of injury to the vagus nerve.7
Hopefully this means if my band is removed, my symptoms might resolve.
Steph, I really and truly believe that getting the band out is going to improve your situation. I believed that the pain I was in while banded wouldn't resolve... thought that the damage was done, removing the band wouldn't help. Boy, was I wrong. I had forgotten what it felt like to be able to breathe without pain... until the band was out of my body.
I REALLY hope that having the band out will resolve the issues you're having. I know it's scary... but the band is most likely causing things to be much, much worse. I hope you know I'm thinking of you and hoping for a good outcome for you.
