Flem or something in throat after eating

The band did so much damage to my Vagus nerves that I ended up with what is called, "machine gun sneezing" for more than a year after band removal. I'd sneeze nonstop, unable to catch my breath, until I actually passed out. All from the Vagus nerves. I chipped my tooth once I sneezed so hard and for such an extended period. It sounds funny, but it was one of the worst periods of my life.

The runny nose might also be a sign that the Vagus nerves are irritated. Unfortunately, many people think it's a "good stop sign," when in reality, the more that nerve is irritated, the more damaged it becomes. And it takes a ridiculously long time to heal, if it ever does. It's been over 8 years since I had my band removed and I still have pain from it.

The phlegm in the throat after eating could also be part of the post nasal drip... also related to the Vagus nerves. Google Vagus nerves and see all the wonderful ways it controls your body. It wasn't until AFTER I had so much damage that I realized what a poor idea it is to put a foreign object so horribly close to such an essential nerve system. It runs from the base of the skull down through the stomach... called the "wandering nerve."  It's the longest of the cranial nerves. Everyone always thinks it's a bunch of malarkey until they start experiencing problems from the band interacting with the nerve system.  It's a shame that docs don't give a little more info about this before placing a band in someone.

It sounds like you are too tight, and in the beginning stages of reflux...reflux indicates pouch dilation a prelude to band slippage, band slippage does not happen immediately -- it takes time, the post nasal drip is a clear give away, please see your surgeon immediately and be honest, you don't want to damage your band.

You may want to ask for a very small amount of saline out, like .1cc or .2cc that should should help.

Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*,  lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!

Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight downsmiley

No the runny nose starts with in the first couple bites...so that can't be it...unless I have had enough to eat with one bite...hahahaha!!!  It happens with sliders foods like ice cream too.

It even happens when I chew on gum

My husband who does not have a band or any wls has this same problem. He has had it all 36 years we have been married. He says he remembers his Grandpa having the same issue. Mike is not overweight.

My nose always ran when I ate with the band.  Now it doesn't do it unless I eat too much or to hot/spicy.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.
