Need Help Making a Decision to Revise to The New Band

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update.

I also want to apologize to anyone who thought I was being disingenuous by posting on another site. I simply am looking for as much insight as I can get. Some stuff I have read on here scared the beejebus out of me, I'm not going to lie. But I didn't mean anything by it. I have not been here in a long time and didn't realize that would offend. It certainly wasn't my intention.

In any case,  I just wanted to give you an update and let you know I'm going to have the band removed, not revised. My surgeon is probably going to be shocked.

I did some research over the weekend on long term banded and ....not good. In fact some vagus nerve damage posts really made me scared, as I have been having the same symptoms. I can only hope that it can repair.   Who knew about all of this 6-7 years ago? It was only good things we read.   I thank you for your help and if you could send some good vibes my way on March 1st, as I go into surgery, I would appreciate it.

Vagus nerve damage can be caused by a variety of reasons; obesity, diabetes, upper abdominal surgery (banding, other WLS, gallbladder removal) and stomach viruses.  It can also happen because the band and/or tubing comes into contact with the nerve.

I have a GI motility disorder and my gastroenterologist is adamant that I not have surgery to revise or remove the band unless it is the last option left.  Additional surgery = additional nerve damage.  One of the surgical remedies for gastroparesis is resection of the stomach, so I may end up removing and revising to VSG.

Sm, thanks for the information. Was your's caused by banding? And I hope your challenges with this improve.

Any kind of bariatric weight loss surgery has its own pros and cons. However I'd suggest that you go for a different kind of surgery maybe rather than the realize band. Since you have already had a band maybe its just not working for you. Consult the doctor and maybe try the VSG. Would jus want to bring to light the new key hole surgery technique that is come in the industry. It is definitely much better than traditional methods

Congratulations on your decision and good luck on your surgery.

I will be thinking of you on March 1st.

Regarding posting on another site,  you can post anywhere anytime you want.  No one should be saying anything to you.
