Problems eating after having a baby?
Hi all, first time poster, so apologies if this topic has come up before.
I had the gastric band put in in 2008 and I just had my second baby 7 weeks ago. I've been finding that since giving birth I've been having a hard time eating anything. Most foods are getting stuck no matter how much I chew and even fluids won't stay down.
I had my band emptied after I experienced similar issues after my first baby was born and I was trying to get pregnant again as I really didn't want to repeat all the drama's of trying to manage two children but not being able to eat.
When I have suffered problems in the past, I have put it down to hormonal changes, as even before pregnancy I would often have increased restriction around my period.
Must say I'm getting pretty frustrated about the whole thing. Given that the band is already empty, really at a loss as to what I can do. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Go see your band surgeon. I was having this problem this spring and when it would not clear with an empty band it had to be removed. That is why I revised. We will hope it is not that but more people have had revisions due to problems than we EVER thought even 2 years ago. It is rather disturbing.
The very first thing I would try is going on all liquids for at least 2 days, then soft/mushies for a minimum of another 2 then slowly transition into regular food. This will be something to try before you can get an appointment and since you have been stuck frequently it is a good thing to do. Note that I did not insist you try it over Christmas, though do as many liquids as you can and be very careful when eating regular things. Go back to the full liquid plan as soon as you can. There is often swelling inside from being stuck as well as irritation so let things calm down while waiting for an appointment.
Good luck and Merry Christmas
Sue
It may be a build up of scar tissue underneath the band. This is becoming more and more prevalent or at least it is now discussed more. IF you are empty, you need to have your band checked ASAP. You SHOULD NOT be getting stuck with an empty band.

As stated above, getting stuck with all the fluid removed is a problem. If fluids won't go down you need this checked out. My body put down scar tissue in an effort to reject the band and with all the fluid out I still got stuck. Band is out and I still can't take normal bites with out sticking. The band has permanently altered the stomach.
