I'm not denying the facts of your band problems. I just want to mention that gastric band design and surgical placement techniques have changed a great deal since the band was first approved for use in the USA (in 2001, so maybe you were one of the first US patients to receive one?). The purpose of those changes was to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications. Of course there are still unhappy outcomes and complications.

Sadly, the stats today are no better than they were 11 years ago.  More doctors and hospitals decline to place bands today than they did with the old technique 11 years ago.

I think you are mistaken, there is NO ONE here that would call you stupid for sharing your complications. I've been on this board over 7 years and EVERYONE gets support for their complications. Problem is ..is how you CONVEY your situation, if you report your problems you get support, but you come across in a SNARKY way telling your problems and wishing doom and gloom on every that is even thinking about a lap band you probably will be met with hostilty even from me.

I hope your DS journey is successful, uneventuful and complication free.

Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*,  lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!

Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight downsmiley

Naomi,

You are one of the worst offenders for people with band problems.  Now that you have a band complication all the sudden you want to play nice.

Many people have been abused here for sharing band complications and you are always first in line to di**** out.

Me play nice :), I've always been very nice and helpful -- and just because I have a hernia does not give SNARKY band bashers a FREE PASS to band bash..lol. This is NOT my first complication, my lap band almost slipped over 6 years ago, I got to my surgeon in time and healed and moved on, I share that story quite often..but I guess it gets ignored...so this is not the first run-in with my lap band.

That isn't true.  You have been beyond cruel many times.  You have always blamed the person, you blamed Bette, you blamed everyone for their band problems.  But now that you are looking at a revision all the sudden you want to play nice.  People know the truth.  You can't erase history.

There isn't a reason in the world why you need a revision due to a hernia.  Fix the hernia, problem solved.  You deserve nothing less.

Didn't read the entire reply. I have never been nasty or snarky to anyone. I wish everyone to have a successful and complication free band experience. I just told of my terrible gerds that I had as soon and I got banded. Nana told me I was stupid to have kept the band in if I had complications. I have two semi small children and insurance that didn't cover wls. I was self pay. I am their sole support and could not afford to pay 6-10 thousand to have it removed. You, nana were very nasty to me. Look at my post history. I have never "bashed" the band or been nasty to anyone. You on the other hand have bashed people who have complications.

I totally know how you feel.  I saw it going on and when I started having issues I got the snarky coming my way and I too slinked off.  That is when I really, really needed this board and it's help.  I came back with the medical backing of my FAILED band.  I can hold my head high, I was about as complient as you could be.

With that said I still was crossed by a vet here and made to feel that it was my ignorance.

The best to you with your DS!

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

There is  BIG difference in SHARING your complication story and being down right MEAN and SNARKY...I've shared my complication story and I've not one time suggested EVERYONE else will develop a hernia.

And when posting stats that also does not suggest that everyone will experience problems.  Yet you and many others take it that way.

Thank you for posting this!
