Since you blocked me, before you allowed me to respond to your PM,
If you continue to bury your head in the sand, by requesting to not hear from those that you insensitively label " Negative Nellies " then you are not ready to go forward with your consult. Your surgeon is only going to sell you the surgery he is comfortable with performing. He has a lot of bills to pay and will use you to pay those bills, rather then reccomend a safer surgery to you..
Labling those of us as " Negative Nellie's " who have suffered tremendas pain and life altering chronic pain is mean, hateful, ignorant, and insensitive. If you really believe my intention is to take my pain out on you, then you have so much more to learn about the lap band.
I've lost 97 lbs, and I am almost a normal BMI, but the lap band has ruined the quality of not only my life, but has hugely impacted my loved ones, and many many others lives.
If you have young children or teens that need close supervision or transpertation to and from school, sporting events, and other places kids.teens need transpertation to...hopefully you won't have to rely on some other childs parent who ends up being the " Cool Parent " and ends up buying your underage teen alcohol and/or drugs.
Want more information, then click on the link in my siggy. Here are a few samples of what we've been discussing in the Failed Bands Group.

I just want pre-ops to understand that surgeons went to medical school and they have very expensive student loans to pay off, and just to consider for a moment that they don't always have our best interests at heart.
They specialized because being a regular MD, just doesn't pay the bills anymore. It's a business, I completely understand that surgeons need to make a buck, but there has to come a time where these surgeons, who we are trusting with our lives, have to understand that there are safer and better alternatives out there, other then the Lap Band.
I realize that my picture was rude, but why oh why would you not want to communicate with posters who have BTDT Do people think we just make this **** up ?

This. Exactly.
The industry of weight loss surgery is a huge moneymaking enterprise. Some of the less scrupulous medical professionals will take advantage of a person's not-knowingness. That's why it's so important to know all options BEFOREHAND.
I can't understand the not wanting to hear personal experiences, either. If I could do it over again, I'd listen to every damned thing everyone had to say, no matter how "upsetting" it was. I thought nothing bad could happen... it would happen to "other people." We're all "other people."

I know that the initial surgeon I had was very much in it for the money. He had no concern for you once you had your surgery. With the LapBand, aftercare is a MUST, a NECESSITY, and Crucial for success. He didn't place my band correctly, and had to have a different surgeon fix that mess.
I still ended up revising to the sleeve after two years with a correctly placed band....the fact is, the band doesn't work as advertised for many of us.

My band was in " perfect position " according to the CT SCAN & endoscopy that was performed less then 24 hours before I was wheeled into an unplanned surgery where I came out with a sleeve, and an erosion my surgeon decided it was best that he hid from me.
This surgeon is THE surgeon that all the MAJOR HMO plans in a 75 mile-ish radius are now contracting with because he and his COE hospital have low balled the competition ( including my original band surgeon ) and he isn't about to report erosion's to our HMO's for fear of losing his cash cows.
People need to understand the office politics involved in their daily health care...IT'S EXISTS, and it could end up ruining their lives.

My initial surgeon was also very excited about his new moneymaking endeavor. He'd been doing RnY... and he saw that the band could be lucrative. I gave him free advertising, which I completely regret still to this day! He advertises with late night informercials to help build his "business."
I know people think this is hogwash, but how else do you explain a surgeon who does the lapband surgery and then ignores the complaints of chronic pain and incredible health problems? He took a nice trip to Hawaii. I hope his conscience didn't keep him awake at night. A patient can tell when a surgeon is actually caring and interested in helping his patients. Mine wasn't.
It's just like any other thing... some people see dollar signs and others see actual human beings.
Our surgeons sound very alike, Melly. NO concern. I can't even fathom being like that.
