Me, me, me, me, me! Although I would prefer VSG, I would have no problem with RNY.  Hell anything BUT the band!

Ive had both.  You take the weight loss for granted with the RNY.  You work so much harder with the Band and I think you repsect the weight loss differently. You don't have to do anything to lose weight with the RNY, it just comes off.  100+ lbs in 6 mos.  You do nothing and you lose.  The Band is work and I appreciate that.

I totally agree with you one that one. I have a true appreciation for my band, because it made me confront the real issues with my weight...MY BAD HABITS.

Very happy I had my band removed... Very happy so far with my RNY. Definitely wish I did RNY in the first place. I was 22, compared to 30 now. Don't know if I could have handled the responsibility - I gave up on the band when it stopped working. So far the RNY has much better results.

The band is whack!

Have you visited the Revision board?  www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/

There are actually FOUR forms of WLS, and everyone should research them ALL before choosing one. The Band and the Sleeve/VSG are primarily restriction surgeries, while the RNY/gastric bypass and the DS/duodenal switch also have an intestinal bypass to induce malabsorption of some calories. With the RNY, this malabsorption of claories lasts about 18-24 months, while with the DS it's permanent. (Which is probably why the DS has the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats.)

Think VERY carefully about how each form of WLS works, and how it would fit into the life YOU want to live. Think twice, cut once.
