The before pic ( after 5 years with the band)was actually 15lbs less than my revision surgery weight. Imagine 15 more lbs on me!!!

The second photo was at the hovering weight trying to reach onederland!!

Onederland....198 this morning.....finally...Now almost half my excess weight is gone...Praise God and the rny...so glad I got rid of that annoying band!!!!

Congrats! U look awesome! I'm so glad you were able to revise!!!

15 pounds in 5 years. That averages 3 pounds/year. I just wish more ppl were aware that that type of weight loss is quite common with the band BEFORE they got it! :-(

Enjoy that RNY! You'll be at goal in no time! :-)

I had a 15lb gain not a loss....Initially I lost weight with the band before the first fill. Then after that very first fill I never lost a pound and actually gain 15lbs from my band surgery weight due to not being able to eat solid foods at all...I could only eat mushies or squishies, like rice or potatoes or beans or ice cream.  The cold ice cream cooled down my burning esophogus and my suffering stomach.

it was horrible

Sorry, I misunderstood.  You know that happens to a lot of bandsters.  We get the band to get healthy, but then many can't do solids and just have to improvise and eat what they can, so it's back to unhealthy eating. :-(

By the way..........there is a lady on the Lap-Band forum that is pre-op and posted today asking if anyone one has made it 5 years out with their bands. Would you please post on there and share your 5 year band experience with her. It might be very helpful for her to hear it!

How did you lose the weight after having the band removed?

I had RNY surgery. It has been everything I had hoped the band would be but much bettter. I never got to a sated feeling with the band and always had pain when eating dense foods like meat, chicken, fish, celery or carrots. I hated that thing...all the fills, unfills, and the esophageal damage I got when I coughed extensively in a bout with the flu...also, there was the hiatal hernia and the severe damage that caused my stomach...oh my gosh, that band was far more invasive imho  than the rny is in my opinion.  the band was not reversible. It was removeable but not reversible.

Then there was also that horrible side effect of getting pulled over consistently in airport security due to the titanium in the port.  What a load of crap that band was.  That is why it is becoming known as the crapband.  My surgeon barely recommmends them anymore.  A far difference from when I got mine in 2007...now i am losing weight without having to diet like I did with the band...and because of only eating the mushy food I actually had a net gain with the crap band.

Looking fantastic! I am a revision too and I am 2 lbs from 100% of my excess weight lost, you are going to be amazed at how amazing it feels to get to goal, it's the best feeling in the world!

So did you just tell your surgeon you weren't happy with your results and wanted a different surgery? I am on my second surgeon (first one moved). I get the feeling my surgeon still doesn't believe I am doing everything I can to make this work.

It is obvious the band failed me.  I didnt have to tell my surgeon anything.  Maybe find a better surgeon.  We have some surgeons in our area that are jerks.  Mine is the current president of the nat'l bariatric association.
