Leak - Now what? I need advice!

Hello.

I had the lap band surgery on 11/2/10. For the first 6 months, I lost 60lbs
, however; since then I have only gained weight. Every time I went to get a fill, I told the dietitians and nurses that I felt as though I had no restriction what so ever and I could eat whatever I wanted. Finally after 8 months of not losing a single pound, I told the nurse that I thought I had a leak, and sure enough...I do! Now, I dont know what to do. I had to pay $4000 up front for 2 years worth of service and fills. If they replace the port/band, I will have to pay for the re-operation surgery which could be $1000 and I'll have to start paying for fills because my pre-pay of services is about up. I'm so angry that a leak was never suggested even when I told them I felt like I had absolutely no restriction. Now I have to pay for a replacement plus additional service and fills because I'll have to start over. Am I wrong for wanting to demand they extend my service period past 2 years considering the past year has been a huge waste??

Thanks!

Cut your losses! Get rid of the band and revise to an effective WLS! If you get the leak fixed more than likely it's just going to be another band issue in the next 2 or 3 years! You have noticed I'm sure that you very seldom see a bandster that has made it 5 years out!

I would insist they cover everything including the surgery if you want to try keeping the band because YOU certainly aren't responsible for the leak. Either it was done during a fill or is a defective band so you shouldn't have to pay for anything!
Tho personally I wouldn't waste the time or money on another band since as Maria said there is a very good chance it will fail again. If you don't keep the band I would suggest the VSG as a very good surgery. Study up on your options and make your choice. Good luck!
