REVISION: Band over Bypass
REALIZE Band on 02/06/12
Hi All
Looking for support and input...
On 2/6/12, I had a revision from RNY to Lap Band (Realize). Yesterday (2/21/12), I went to my post-op appt and I am down 10lbs. I go back in 4wks and at that time it will be determine if I will need a fill. He states that often individuals never receive a fill. I have been starving and fear over eating now that I can eat soft foods for 2wks. Then, I proceed to modified regular diet.
My goal is th keep the 64oz/64gms Rule.
My biggest concern is controlling hunger. With the RNY, my stomach was initially small therefore the amounts filled me. Now, with band and no fill the liquids are going through and I never feel full! Any suggestions??

Since you still on the mushies take it easy once you get to the solids stage it will get easier since you will be eating tons of lean protein which keeps you full longer. now try mushies every 3 hrs time your body, i kno doctors say to have 3 meals and limit snacking in between but a yogurt or apple sauce in between meals could help, also remember donot drink with meals or right after wait atleast an hr to start your liquids.
good luck

You are in a tough spot right now. Hunger really is an issue for some. I hear people say that they were never hungry but not me. I was starving from day 2. It never got better until I was able to have solid foods. Even then I got hungry frequently. That is why it is called bandster hell, that period between surgery and getting the optimal fill level for you. The point here is that while you may have to eat more frequently right now try to do your best. I remember having to have something nearly every two hours but I made sure every bit of it was protein or soft veggies.
You will survive it. We know what you are going through. Oh, and congrats on the 10 lbs. that is fantastic!
Good luck

BOB (united 12-26-2009) and I became good friends after my very first fill. I too was very hungry during the initial soft/liquid stage. You will see that this really is the difficult time period for us bandsters. So happy for your 10 pound loss. Keep up the good work. The liquids are not really suppose to fill you up. Trust in your band and you will see that hunger goes away quickly after you hit the right fill amount for you. Lean protein will help you stay full. Stay positive during this stage.
Hi. I see we were Banded (BOB) at just about the same weight (me at 246.6), I am now at 195 and back in 10s and 12s and hoping to hit my RNY low of 175 but personally, I am praying for 150. I was thrilled to see you are a size 6. My plastics have held well over the years so I think thats how I am able to get into 10s and 12s at 195.

BOBster here too (6-23-2011). I am down a little more than 50lbs. I had restriction after my first fill. I have a large band (14cc) and currently have 9cc in my band. They prepped the band with 2cc, I got my first fill (2cc) about a month after surgery and then did several 1cc and .5cc till I got to 9cc. I think I am in my "sweet spot" now as I've lose 6lbs since the 28th. My profile is up to date, so, it says how many fills and the amounts. As another gal mentioned, you will have restriction soon and its NOTHING like the RNY. Its so different. Also, I am not hungry either. Good luck, email me if you need anything.

Hi...Is a "BOBster" a band over bypass? If so, I am so curious about your statement "it is nothing like the RNY"
I had an RNY about 10 years ago and was very very happy and succeded in losing about 140 lbs and was thrilled for about 8 years. I do not regret it one bit. However, i'd say over the last 2 1/2 years, after having a severe bout of anemia being my only incident, I have begun to regain about 60 lbs and am seriously considering a lap band that was recommended by my surgeion. I took the barium swallow and they saw that my stomach did not stretch, the opening did...I do worry about the recommendation for the band since it is not my stomach that is "broken' so why fix that? I was told trying to fix the stretched opening could cause too many complications and risks...
Can you tell me your experiences/regrets/positives about your choices and what can I expect
Thanks in advance. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
