What is a good calorie count during the first two weeks post op? I am not HU Gary at all and having a hard time keeping my nu beers above 500 per day.

I didn't count Calories much, but 500 is probably about where I was.

To be honest, I had plenty of calories in reserve, so as long as I stayed hydrated, I ate a little bit when I was hungry and then just let it go.

Eating for the first few weeks was a chore ...felt like a part time job to drink and eat enough.

I selttled into a good eating schedule after a few weeks......

You are just two weeks out so you are still healing. Some of what you are likely feeling as "restriction" is the swelling left after surgery. Did your doctor give you a post op diet to follow? I was just barely on soft mushies when I was 2 weeks post op. I was not hungry either but it's very important right now to stay hydrated. Maybe get some protein drinks to help up your calories (jus****ch the sugar amounts).

Best advice though is to please call your doc's office and ask them. Proper follow up care is so important to your healing and success with the band.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

I am following the dr post op diet on liquids for two weeks. But, I haven't felt hungry yet. Probably the swelling. My stomach still feels like a balloon! I went to two protein drinks a day to get more calories in me!

Thanks for the support!

I chewed a lot of gum in my liquid phase, it gave me something to chew and my mind off food. It worked for me. I don't count calories, but I do try to get lots of protein in. I am 20 month out.
Good Luck

Hello,
I was on liquids only for 3 weeks after surgery.  I was also told Protein (90 grams) was the most  important thing at this time.

The 1st couple of days I was drinking the Atkins shakes and the multi vitamin I got did not have any iron in it.  I felt so weak and crappy.  By doing this I was only getting 45 grams of Protein and approx 400 cals a day.  No wonder I was feeling so yuk.

THEN ... I went over to Costco and got a carton of the Premier shakes ( 30grams of protein in each drink) I also went and got some multi vitamins with Iron and I picked up straight away.  Still not a lot of calories consumed but I had a lot of reserves on my body to survive LOL.   It was like night and day the way I felt.

I never thought in my lifetime that a day would go by without me thinking of food and feeling starving, but for 3 weeks I did not feel like eating anything.  Ohh I wish that feeling would come back again LOL
Remember, if you want to be a 155 pound person, you have to EAT like one.

My Dr said for me not  to worry about calories, you are still healing, when I had mine done. The hunger will come.  Like the others said, protein and water are important. Don't worry about calories, for now.  They sell Isopure, which is a Gatorade like, protein drink, in GNC, if needed. My Dr also "primed" my band with 1cc during surgery so you may have a little in your band, too. You may be wishing for this "non hunger" in a few days. LOL Good luck with your WL journey.

Thanks all! The tomato soup is doing wonderful and I am at two protein drinks a day plus about 40 oz of water. Walking a couple times outside down to the end of my block and back. Can't wait for all of the gas to get out of my stomach!
