Oh no, I'm sorry!
The good news is that the stomach can heal. The bad news is that it may take a while.

I had to have my band removed because it caused so much damage to my stomach, diaphragm, and esophagus. I wasn't able to revise to another weight loss surgery type. If the erosion is severe, your daughter will most likely need to heal before revising, should she decide to do that.

I wish you both the best. I hope your daughter will be OK. Please feel free to click on the link in my signature. I'll add you to the failed bands group, if you'd like. There are a lot of us who have had similar complications. If you check the Revisions forum here, you'll also see a lot of people who have had band removal or revision to another surgery.

Good luck to your daughter.

That's just one of the MANY complications that can occur with the band. The band has the most post-op complications of all the WLS's. :-(

How long did she have her band before it eroded? Tell her there is a failed band group on here and on Facebook that she might want to join.

What is some of the signs you have a eroded band, been having some problems, so just curious. Tried to go to the site, but it says my account won't allow it.

My erosion was hidden from me, so I am unclear as to which symptoms out of all my symptoms were related to my erosion.but I can tell you what I think they may have been.

At night I would wake up and throw up or spit up bloody mucosa.

My port are had been swelling for a very long time and was sensitive to touch. I kept experiencing burning and bee sting like sensations which were kinda painful. I have read that this may be indicative of an infection that has traveled through the tubing. It's possible that the infection was somewhere around the erosion...

Have you made it into the group yet ? Once you click on it to join you just have to wait for one of the gatekeepers to get off their ass and approve you. Currently I don't see any " pending members "

Sorry to hear of your bad news. I had to have my band removed in October because of erosion.
I wasn't able to revise because I do not weigh enough to qualify (BMI 26).  So far my weight has been stable.
Some doctors will revise to another surgery immediately (mine will not) and others want to wait until your stomach has healed. If I could have revised, I would have gone for the sleeve.
Good luck.
