I thought you had a national health service in Canada? Or is it like here in the UK - wls only covered if it is a life threatening condition?

As much as I love my band I have to say that it is not a good choice for a self-pay. If you want simple restriction get a vsg. If you want malabsorption get a ds. While they are usually more money initially they are a much better choice in terms of only needing labs checked for maintenance. Since they are done with laperoscopy, as is the band, they are only a bit more recuperation time. Please, think carefully. I had insurance to pay for my band and am grateful but if I did not have it I would have gone a different direction.

I wish you the best of luck on your surgery. Personally, I would not have chosen the band if I was a self pay. I have had numerous follow up visits and adjustments -- all of which are pricey if you are paying cash.

Adjustable Gastric Band on 06/23/11
I was banded by Slimband, self pay, in June- 16,000 and in toronto.  the aftercare, fills and nutritional info is all included and you are covered for five years (I think?) for repairs, etc. as well as the fills/defills are for life.  Just throwing that out there...
Do Unto others, before they do Unto you..........lol
