Do you eat this?

Based on the no liquid 1/2 hr to 1hr after meals, what's your take on cereal and milk or broth based soups?  Do you think the liquid w/ solids hurt the pouch?

I don't think that they hurt the band/pouch at all --- but they don't really help me feel satisfied.

Liquids seem to push the food right down, so they don't sit in my pouch and help my brain get the sensation that I have eaten.

So, yes, I occasionally eat them, but I try to eat/drink the liquid first, and then finish with the solid.
And I don't expect to feel as full as I do with lean/solid protein

They don't do  any harm, just let me get hungry sooner. I often have soup and always have milk with my cereal.

Won't hurt the band but it is on our Surgeon's no no list because they are slider foods, will go right through and won't keep you full.....I believe everything in moderation so I say enjoy every once and a while..........

The main reason we are not supposed to drink with meals is because it just pushes the food through the pouch faster.  The idea with the band is to stay fuller longer.  I have also found that if I drink on a full pouch the liquid will often bring what I just ate back up like a liquid draino effect.  It's great if I'm stuck, but not when I'm trying to stay full!

I usually drink up to the point when I start eating and then wait 1/2 or longer afterwards.

Best~

I am about 4 years out from my banding.  To this day I can not eat cereal with cold milk.  The "coldness" of the milk snaps my band shut and then I go through a stuck episode with the cereal.   My doc recommended that I warm the milk and if I want to do cereal stick to something filling like a mini wheat or oatmeal squares  (or kashi..bu****ch the sugar).  The fiber causes it to stay with me a little longer than eating the cereal plain.

I love to do soup...but unless it is a hearty soup like chili..it passes right through the band.  Sometimes I do a wedding soup (chicken broth with meatballs, kale and orzo) and I drink the broth first and then I slowly eat the meatballs and kale.

Someone along the way told me to add crackers to the soup...but I know myself and that is a slippery slope!  One cracker turns to a dozen before I realize.    As other posters have written, I don't think I stay full for as long as if I had eaten a solid meal...but at times I do enjoy the soothing qualities of a warm bowl of soup.

My nutritionist told me to avoid eating soups. I only have a bland soup when I don't feel particularly well, like tonight for instance. And yes, I had very traditional crackers and jelly too. But I got full fast, and had one small bowl and that was enough!
I try not to totally deprive myself of various foods, but I just don't eat as much of them, and certainly not as often.
Good Luck!
